I very much appreciate your insight. We're staying with the '19 Sequoia, should be good to 300k miles with regular driveline fluid swaps. Probably no downtime in the shop for driveline issues.

Not a bad choice at all! I still go back and forth just keeping my 14’ Tundra instead of snagging my 23’

I had some drama with my 2018 a couple days ago, that had me thinking of the Gen 3 Tundra with the fuel gauge posts here.
I was at a little under half on fuel. Stopped to fill up on the way home.
When I left the gas station I noticed the needle still at a little under half.
I figured it would straighten itself out. Well I watched it go down to E quickly. First time that happened.
When I toggled the steering wheel button it said 3 kms to empty.
If I hadn't just filled up I may have been worried. It stayed at E for 30 mins. at which point I was pulling in and did a couple sharp moves to get down our driveway. All of a sudden I look at the dash and it was at F now.
    ********
This and the sunroofs that allow water to build up, and it ends up coming down one of the pillars at the grip handle.....are Toyota DNA engineering problems with their trucks. Older ones and the new ones.

Re: the Sunroof issue . I need to remember on a regular basis to clear out the drain holes on the driver and passenger side with a large paper clip. So some truck shaking and a paper clip solves my Gen 2.5 issues so far.

I can’t say I have ever experience either of those issues is my 14’ 12’ or 08’ but from working for Ford for so many years I have seen countless sunroof issues to the point it gets me a little worried even for my 23’

This is the main reason why I told my salesperson under no circumstances will I purchase any vehicle with a sunroof. I don't need a weakness artificially added to a vehicle which will cause a leak or compromises structural integrity.

Agreed. I’ve always felt they’re more trouble than they’re worth. It’s the only thing I wish my LX didn’t have.

Agree regarding the sunroof, problem is that Toyota was adding sunroofs to most of the well equipped 22 Limited trucks, so it was almost impossible for me to get a Limited with the surround cameras package, without sunroof. I found 1 in the whole California which was 7 hours away drive, and shady LA dealer told me to bring a big bar of soap with me...

So I ended up in a 1794. With a big panoramic sunroof...

I actually do really like the big sunroof now, it's pretty cool to look up and see all of the trees above you, buildings, skyscrapers. It's like another window with a nice view at all times... (fingers crossed it stays strong and without problems )

Pano moonroof wAs a must for me on my next pickup so got it on my Powerboost. I use it all the time when it’s warm and was willing to take the risk. Seems like in addition to two common trouble
Spots listed above lack of use is another cause of problems. Gotta treat them like a basement water valve, if they go years without being actuated expect things to seize up in there.

Every time someone has a doubt about their Tundra, just go spend a few minutes on the F150 forum and you'll be feeling good about your choice for rest of the day.. Just did that myself.

I was about to start building a 5.0 and then saw the 5.0 replacement thread and how Ford made them prove the oil change frequency.

mine didn’t eat oil that much it was negligible but it also had sub 5k miles on it and like the tundra, CR can’t recommend the powerboost

They’re not terrible but definitely a lick of the draw + honestly a 2023 and beyond is a dumb build. Literally paying more money for less product

Or work with me at Ford daily and see things that are baffling! Plus yes I have been a huge 5.0 fan until they were ending valves left and right, sad too because with a rough or whipple supercharger they rock. Even down to the wiper motor Recall (no parts readily available, no eta on shipping) hey at least no one needs wipers in winter on Utah right? Lol

Yeah I had mixed feelings about picking up a December build 2021 that showed up on a lot in March 2022. But then I realized they started nickle and diming people in ‘22 by doing things like moving bed LEDs from the 302 high package to the Lariat. Not only were prices going up but popular little stuff that people expected in certain packages was getting moved up to the next package so you’re taking a double hit. Buying the next trim at a higher price to get key features.

Only thing I am jealous of is at some point they started putting leather in an XLT high but multiple price increases and interest rate hikes worth more than a leather package still don’t make it worth it.

Probly just gonna ask to get the seats re covered for my birthday next year and make it perfect for 1700 bucks.

I would take a 22 or 21 build. 21 had the most options, but 23’s are a joke

The rubber band thingy inside one of the cupholders on my ‘21 that creates the tension that allows those prongs to grip different sized cups broke and I’m considering going to dateline NBC over it.

I mean, it’s the most popular vehicle in the country, they sell a million a year. If the reliability really was terrible, FoMoCo would have long ago been out of business. When you’ve got that many on the road there are going to be some bad apples, like anything else.

Can't argue w/facts. Ford's reliability is bad. If I was to buy a new 1/2 ton right now, it would probably be an F150. That makes me sad to. There just is not any good choice right now. Until this year I would not even think of any new truck besides a Toyota, but they have a lot of work to do before they get this truck "right'. 0 chance I would buy a Fiat or any GM product. Might have to look at Nissan?? Good luck w/whatever you drive and have a Merry Christmas!

My Bronco Badlands Sasquatch arrived two weeks ago. I knew within 1k miles I wouldn't be keeping it. Fortunately, I was able to sell it for more than I paid. The Ford dealer offered me 3k more than the Toyota dealer as I shopped F150s and Tundras. I took less on my trade to get the Tundra because at the end of the day, I ended up with a better truck for me for about 7k cheaper. Both trucks are nice, however they have different strengths and weaknesses. A 23 Tundra Limited 4x4 comes in under 60k and has adaptive cruise control, more comfortable rear seats, heated and cooled front seats, standard bucket seats, garage door opener, trailer brake controller, trailer Blind Spot, and a few other goodies not standard on the base Lariat. The F150 Supercrew 4x4 with the 3.5 and similar features (501A package) is around 66k to get those features. The Tundra has a smoother ride my 23 has zero rattles or excessive wind noise. For me, the 23 Tundra Limited is hands down a better truck and value. I wish the Tundra had 4A like the Lariat. I dont know if the SoftTex will end up better than the leather in the F150 five years from now. I can always put Katzkin leather in the Tundra if the SofTex turns out to be trash. Other than the 4A and leather, there is nothing i prefer on the F150. I'm just as good with the Tundra bumper step as the fold down ladder in the F150.

I drove a Ford car for years. It’s what drove me to Toyota when I decided to buy a truck.

I was a little bummed to see CR drop the Tundra’s reliability rating to the depths of its competitors, but when I read what they’re basing it on, it seems kind of harsh?

If I’m buying “poor reliability,” give me the one with trim, wind, and rattling issues (and, okay, a turbo problem that seems like ancient history) over the guys who are complaining about… their engines?

If I may ask, just curious...

How long did you keep your previous trucks for?
How long do you wish to keep this one?
