Especially if they told me this.........

"The dealership’s service department told Owen it might not have the necessary parts until the first quarter of 2018."

It's actually a much bigger issue than the article makes it sound. It is affecting EVERY model of Tacoma. The only difference is that if you're not on the recall letter, they don't hold your vehicle hostage. There is a very long thread about it in TW

Those paper gaskets suck anyway. I'll take some RTV instead any day.

Because of this, the transmission issues, the vibrating driveline, the bad crank position sensors, and the general lack of torque, I am SO GLAD that I went with my gut and cancelled my 2016 Tacoma order at the very last minute and bought my loyal, gas guzzling friend.

Happened to me with my 2016 Taco. When I asked how long before they would have the parts to fix the leaking diff they said it could take weeks, could take months. Then they handed me the keys to a loaner RAV4. The recall was one of many reasons I traded up to a Tundra.

What's the big deal having to drive a loaner KamRee!!! for 6 months while paying for a new Taco?

Um i think thats a whole hell of a lot more than "a little bit rediculous".
I sure expect a LOT better from Toyota!
A fallking gasket is all that is needed??.. Gosh, imagine if it was and actual part

I have hated the tacomas ever since they changed the design in 2005.

I liked my 09 somewhat. The newer ones seem to have issues. I do expect to see a diesel Taco at some point. Much better than current offering.

    Well, to be fair....

The same thing happened to my Corvette. An emissions part needed to be changed and Cheverolet was on back order. I could test drive the car, but couldn't drive it home. That cost me an extra 1000.00 in shipping. They were cool though, they shed the 1000.00 off the car though. Whooohooo. Went down to 63800.00 lol.

Now if the vehicle was already at home and a recall came in and the dealership said they were going to hold on to it until further notice, I would just tell them to keep it.
Just like the bumper brackets on the Tundra trucks. I wouldn't wait that long and a sale would have been lost.

Had my Blazing blue Pearl Tacoma all picked out and ready to purchase. I ended up balking at the last minute and cancelled the transaction.

Went back a month later and bought my Tundra. Been all smiles every since. This article just confirms I made the right decision.

I would be ticked, big thread on this over on TW. I'm surprised its that hard to churn out some new diff gaskets.

It isn't all that hard. We have a gasket maker at work and one can bang out one from scratch pretty quick.

I'm with you on this. Fail.

I did the same and so glad I did. After reading about the complaints and then test driving it I realized it.

This is why I bought my Tundra last year. I was eyeing the new Tacoma but heard about the issue from a friend of my who bought one.
After about 4000 miles the rear end would howl. He took it back to the dealership. They put in a new rear end. I'm not sure if it was just the gearing or an entire rear end assembly. He got it back, put another few thousand miles on it and it started to howl again. He was LIVID. He traded it in for a Dodge.

When I was looking at Toyota dealerships the salesmen I talked to even knew of the rear end problem and still tried to talk me into one.

I have been pretty happy with the 14' Taco. 40k miles without an issue, which isn't crap for mileage, but that is all I have to go off of. Glad we stuck with the 4.0L.

One of my neighbors has gone through a couple new Tacomas. The first one wouldn't run right and had horrible fuel mileage. I thought he was kidding at first....until he proved it to me.
Second one was motor issues. This one he has now has been great so far.

I was looking for a 2014 or 2015 2nd gen Tacoma but the prices were so high here in the NY area which led me to the 3rd gen Tacoma and then to the Tundra.
