I have a camper shell and decked system in the bed of my truck, which I sleep in while camping. I want to carry a fuel can, but the only storage solution I can find is to buy a ~$900 roof rack. Is there any alternative to mount a rotopax/jerry can somewhere without the use of my bed, and without buying a roof rack? I'm willing to mount it to the outside of my camper shell somehow if I knew the best method.

    Raised hitch mount?

Front hitch mount with a tray. You can also mount a storage box on it and lock stuff in it.

I suggested a front hitch because you may not want to have a obstacle getting in or out of the bed.

    Too many, but not enough....
If you rather relocate your spare tire, they make a fuel container that fits under the truck in the spare tire well.

It may just be me but I would not want to mount a fuel can on the front of my truck in a tray. In a front-end accident, it will be the first thing on the scene of the accident.
