yes it is gone

traded it in for a Silverado LT.

I tried to like the new tundra. I did. But the leg room was not there for me as well as the seat issue and seat trim breaking.
Add to it the amount of thin plastic Toyota added to the interiors.
The wind noise from the windshield did not help my satisfaction either.
Over all I just was not happy.
Now I do believe they got the drivetrain right. But honestly that’s about all.

The Silverado feels more refined and flows better if that makes sense.
The lay out is great
The electronic dash with 4 style layouts to choose from is great and the info screen is huge.
Seats are cloth but heated with drivers side being power adjustable.
Mpg coming back from okc was 21 interstate.

sorry tundra owners but it was not for me.

 

A few questions for ya: When did you take delivery? Do you slide out of your seat when exiting the vehicle? I noticed prior to me getting step sliders that I would slide out, putting my weight on the trim. With the step, I do not slide out anymore. I step out. SO weight could be a factor as well.

 

Had it since July.

Only recently started to have issues.

I get in and out like I have on all my tundras.

That's not answering the question. When you get out of the vehicle, do you turn and slide out of the seat and proceed to slide out the vehicle? Or do you step out of the vehicle?

Well if he’s doing the same thing as all his tundras, I would imagine he is sliding out. I also have had 4 tundras and not one of them had this issue. I actually tell my wife to try and pick herself up some instead of doing a complete slide. Still no issues. I tended to pick myself up a little but it isn’t about the plastic trim for me, it’s more for the leather seat and crushing the foam on that side. Other have had this issue regardless. They are also having the mirror issue because Toyota got cheap and didn’t put a screw to hold the camera in. Eventually either Toyota fixes both these issue or it going to cost the customers money, especially for the mirror, since supposedly it the entire assembly and not just the camera piece. I believe someone said it was $1k.

 

Have a feeling there’s a service person at your dealership thinking wtf is wrong with people.

 

I hop in and push myself out with my right leg. Same way I have gotten in and out of every truck I have ever had since I began driving 40 years ago.

 

Alot of folks leave a service department thinking wtf is wrong with those folks? Its a two way road.

 

LOL that was my exact expression when I was told the price LOL.

 

Because it's absurd! I could understand it if it was a a power seat and that price included the switches, but yours is just the panel, right? Or do they do the usual thing and bundle it into an "assembly" that has 5 other bits you don't need?

 

Mines just the panel, no power seats, thankfully.

No idea on the cost of one with power seats. Thankfully.

Really starting to wish I would have kept that 4runner now.

 

4runners are pretty freaking hard to beat. The only things I have against them is that they are more expensive than a similar/same trim Taco, and sometimes I need a truck bed. If not for those 2 things, I'd rock one.

 

I was told (by someone on here) that what Toyota learned on the Million mile Tundra was “all the areas they overbuilt on previous models that they could now cut corners on this one”

 

I am starting to believe that.

Thing is I like the power train, I honestly believe they got that part right. 5000 miles in so far.

 

Thats why I went back to a pick up, sometimes I need a bed and to have to stop, come home get a trailer or borrow one, then go get what I need loaded, etc etc, kind of a pain.

With a pick up, load it and go.

 

4Runners are great because they are built in Japan. You can’t beat Japan quality. Good thing Mike Sweers has no part of that. They still bring the bullet proof 4.0 unlike the 3.5 that replaced the 4.0 in the taco. I am all for innovation but at some point you have to make it better and not more complicated. Long term reliability like the 4.0, 4.7 & 5.7 has yet to be proven for the taco 3.5 and tundras 3.4, especially the tundra since they put a million sensors and controllers for everything in that engine and trans.

 

Toyotas have ALWAYS done this. One may make it forever as it is lower to the ground, you use the running boards and not put all of your weight on the side of the seat when getting in/out, etc. One gets destroyed from no running boards, too much weight put on plastic, etc.

Ever go look at a used truck and see the drivers seat just like yours? In any other make? This is not a Toyota issue. Go look at used trucks with and without runnig boards and see the difference.

I am very mindful when I get in and out. Use the running boards and sit down, not drag myself over the edge of the seat with all of my weight. I want it to look like new as long as I can. Just like waxing a paint job. Maintain what you have, simple enough for me. You can always tell who tried to take care of their vehicles when they are no longer new.

 

I agree it takes effort to not ruin the side bolster and sit properly, at least for my big ass, welcome to the forum BTW

 

Oh, right! Thank you My first post here. Not new to Toyotas but with the new 23 in my stable I wanted to read all about it.

 

I haven't investigated the cost of a replacement for my 2011 CM with power seat yet. It's still intact but dropped down when I added seat covers and I haven't been able to figure out if an attachment point broke, of it it just came out. I used to swivel left and slide out, but since this happened I have started stepping on the nerf bar with left foot and swinging out to avoid further damage until I can figure out if I can fix or need to replace.
My 2011 CM has 185k on the clock and still going strong, so it's not going anywhere with new and used truck prices being so high.

 

being built in japan has no bearing on the item since its the same plastic being used in a usa built vehicle or a japan built vehicle. the only difference is how a vehicle is put together and the quality control on said built vehicle.

as long as the part is made to toyota specs, where its installed has no bearing since its the same part.

 

I have had an awful lot of vehicles, around 44 at this point. I have never had this issue on any of them. My job has fleet truck of all the big 3. No issues there and we don’t baby them. The only one I ever had an issue with was 1 of my 3 Trailblazer SS. And by then it was already 10 years old not brand new. I am on my 4th tundra, never an issue with sliding out. I do however try to lift my weight so I don’t crush the foam but my wife is another story. No fucks given by her. Pisses my off actually but what you gonna do. I feel like everything nowadays is build cheaper to maximize profits. Toyota is no different, to bad because they always had good quality. Go read up in the side mirror camera. Another short cut of Toyota.

 

Do we know this for a fact? Are the same materials being used? Who’s to say that the Japanese short change is because we are not as anal as them? The 4Runner is Japan made. Tundra is made from parts all over the world. Including Mexico, Canada & China.
