2017 Headlight Level?

So how do you level the headlights? I know I can just dial them down but my 0 setting seems high. How do I know that 0 is correct?

I did swap out hologens to hid but I did that on my 2008 with no light beam probs.

I worked into the night last night and I had people moving over! lol

plus you would have thought my beams were bug light zappers lol

Once I have the correct low beam height can I manually crank down the light? So that I know 0 is per state or factory setting?

Or is my headlight already correct?

 

You can manually adjust your headlights down but those HID bulbs are meant for an HID projector or reflector bowl, you can't achieve a proper beam pattern with your setup.

On the back of the housing there is a small white bolt, you turn that to manually adjust.

 

Aiming HIDs in reflector housings is like swatting a fly with a stick.

I think I'll just turn the knob down a couple degrees from the dash button. I don't want to knock em out of factory setting. At 25 feet I should be 42" and I'm at 46" which according to State of Ohio I can't exceed 5" so I'm thinking I'm in compliance? But when I'm behind cars I light them up big time and they are pulling over.

But on coming traffic does not flash me. Should I lower anyway? For the people I am behind?

 

I didn't have this problem with my 2008 Tundra and I am using same hid system

The legit fix is to get retrofitted headlights with proper HID projectors.

Its hard to say this without sounding rude, I am not trying to sound rude though, haha, but you are basically high beaming everyone.

 

Agreed - your reflectors are just scattering all that white light all over the place like a massive flood light. To get a better idea you should turn your lights on tonight and then look at them from the front, give yourself about 50'. It's killer on the eyes when someone has HID or LEDs in a reflector bowl. =(

So uh, I'll be selling my Spyders in a week or so.. totally unrelated.

 

If you get pulled over with those, you'll likely get tagged, regardless of the aim. Ohio is the worst.

 

Will see this fall when it gets darker. I might just dial down them from zero to two

It's because you put HIDs in the wrong type of headlight. Take them out.

Sorry man, I hate to be rude to a fellow tundra owner but you should take them out. Seriously. You might not "think" you're blinding people, but you are.

 

I'm not hitting them in there eyes, the light is still staying within the stock reflectors. I was just behind smaller cars that were in my light line. Would have happened if I had projectors. I just did a wall test from 25' away and I'm within criteria according to state guidelines. Checked with TRS and I'm still legal just light pattern isn't as clean as projectors would be.

I'm running LED and mine are running like yours, nice crisp line and so much better than that nasty yellow light.

 

HIDs in reflectors DO cause glare for other drivers, because science. Have a friend drive toward you in your truck while you're in another car. I think you'll be surprised as it is not a judgement that can be made from the driver's seat.

 

All I'm saying is that there not aimed at eyes of oncoming drivers. I had same set up in 08 Tundra. I just wanted to make sure that my lights were not aimed at on coming drivers. Projectors give you a more controlled beam. If the hid's were an issue they would be banned

 

They are illegal in your application... so technically they are banned...
