I was working on adding ambient light (similar to the Platium trim) for my Tundra but I cant seem to find a 12v inside the door (beside the courtesy light which turns off once door is shut).

Anyone have a wire diagram or can point me to the right direction for all 4 door with 12v when car is on?

    image.jpg

    Edit: I figured it out
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DLuiEOaQPI

    https://youtube.com/shorts/Ifws362GYY4

    Item used:
    Pins: https://www.amazon.com/Cermant-400Pcs-2-54mm-Connector-Terminal/dp/B095BQDH6F
Aliexpress: 18 in 1 ambient light from Abilaen (will need double sided tape upon installation).

    Installtion note:

    • The front removal is only 1 step for armrest.
    • The rear removeal is 2 steps for armrest - it has extra bracket holding onto it. When putting it back, make sure to align it since there are tabs.
    • Cubby/storage hole light - if you're buying Aliexpress make sure to pick the package that has them. When you install it, you need to trim it shorter as it's too long. I used a scissor and rotate it then it grip it hard and it would snap off then I sand it down.
    • My installation was not perfect as I did break some tabs and somehow one of the mini speaker for the rear door panel tab broke off as I pull the panel open so pull it slowly. Luckily, I was still able to put it back on snug but required tape since I wasn't sure if it hold as a precaution.

I have Limited and am researching a similar project. I purchased the two Platinum ambient lights for one door. One is the long horizontal blue light and the other lights up the little cubby hole in the center of the door. There is already a hole in my door panel for the cubby light. I hope to take panel off soon to see how the long led light fits under the upper armrest. Assuming the panel comes apart and I can add the light, I plan tap into the power supply that powers the blue window switch letters. The window switch dims with all the other blue lights through the control in the switch panel to the left of the steering wheel. Ill post pictures of lights when I get home.

I bought an aftermarket lights so I can have RGB, the power switch wire has 9v and the led I have needs 12v. Please show me the power supply switch you’re referring to which could be differ from what I’m seeing. Goodluck with your project as well!

Okay. I didn’t know the power to the power window switch was only 9v.

Get a volt meter and check your window control wires.

I have my external side mirror drl’s controlled off this power.

There is power there, just need to locate it and common ground. Should be a simple install

this is my 3rd gen Tacoma but same applies for most all current vehicles

That’s what I used but it seems like the 9v can’t power on my 12v led strip. Only one that has is the courtesy light but turn off as I shut the door. I likely missed a 12v wired so will open it back up again.

I found the 12v, it was the windows switch all along, however, I had to turn on the auto DRL mode to obtain the 12v. This is on the passenger side - pink for power and white is ground.

Driver side - the very left bottom row cable (lighter purple) is power and the very right (pink) is ground

Here are pictures of the blue ambient door lights. Gonna be a bit before I can work on this because my wife’s parents are coming for an extended stay. 950749FF-247C-4309-9291-4596AD503FCA.jpg

@bongbong here are part numbers and prices. Pretty sure part numbers are different for drivers and passengers doors. These are for passenger front door.

    810800c030 - $26.00
    810800c040 - $23.83

Are these both the cubby hole part number or the long light under armrest?

I'm interested in the harness. If you don't mind including that info as well.
    Thanks

I haven’t pulled the door panel off yet to see if the harness is already there for these lights. I assume I will have to splice into the feed for the blue lights in power window switch

I dont like spicing or any other ways of "biting", there are other methods - try male and female pins instead like I am doing. It's cold and windy as well, so I havnt work on mine either, waiting for weather to heat up a bit.

Cool. Didn’t notice those when saw your photos the first time. So they fit along side factory pins in plug?

Not perfectly snug but good fit which need electric tape to to secure it further as well as wrapping the exposed metal if you look where the tape are. I bought 200 pieces for like 10$ on Amazon.

I knew there had to be a light for the cubby but couldn't locate a part number. Does the harness in the picture come with the light?

What kind of pins did you get? Are they made for piggybacking on the back of the plug or are you just using them like that? I want to add RGB ambient lighting to my truck but it's lower on the list of things to do. Also, my mom's nickname for me when I was little, is your user name.

Kinda piggyback I would say - 18-24awg would fit in a bit loose but I would recocmmend that size.

    It means ballon in Vietnamese.

Not sure if question has been answered yet but the part numbers I posted above include two lights and harness. Still not sure if it will plug and play or if we have to tap into existing harness to power them.

That is slick! Beautiful! I want to do the same thing. Great job. Hoping the setup is more or less the same for my SR5.

This is what I got, not OEM, need double sided tape to install at those locations.
