It should come factory, but you are so correct sir. This will help out a lot in Alaska.

What are your business plans up there if you don't mind me asking?

I have 20s and 33s it could use gears sometimes pulling out it goes to 2nd too soon and if I gotta gas it, it struggles or it'll down shifts and it's too much. When I need tires again I'm doing 35s, regear, LSD. I've never been so excited to spend so much money.

Between running 35's and having the 4.6L, my truck is in need of a regear BAD

Great. Something else expensive to add to my truck list! Good info though!
Anybody know how adding a true LSD would affect the factory "auto LSD" or traction control?

If you have the 4.6L then you have a 9.5" rear axle instead of the 10.5" axle the 5.7L powered trucks get. You might have more options for your rear axle, unless you have a 4x4 (I think the 8.7" in the front only has 4.88 gears as an option).

For gears I think that 4.88 Nitro and Yukon are your gear options. ARB makes differentials for your truck; not sure about anyone else. The 9.5" axle is actually used in the Land Cruiser (various generations) but the version used in the Tundra may have some small, nearly insignificant difference that precludes using a lot of parts.

Give Keith a call at Dirtydeeds for your LSD and Gears. You will not find a better deal anywhere. Keith will answer all your questions. That is why I went with Dirtydeeds. I'm very happy with my 4.88's and Auburn LSD.

When I talked to the Toyota mechanic that put mine in he said that since the mechanical LSD is doing what it should and locking the rear wheels the truck won't sense the wheel slippage (because there won't be any) and the "electronic" fooling the truck into LSD won't happen.

justdifferentials.com Auburn LSD and Nitro gears. Price was the same as dirty deeds and they shipped them quicker for the same price. Im assuming that he has them drop ship if you order through him which is cool too. I just needed my stuff quick as I had already got a slot at my Toyota dealer and couldn't wait long to get the parts. Had all my stuff in 3 days UPS.

I went to my Toyota dealer and got my service guy to go test drive with me a used 2013 CM 5.7 4x4 with bone stock wheels, tires, and no lift just to get an idea of what the exact same stock truck drives like stock. I had bought my truck used (only 20k miles) with the 6" lift, 20" wheels, and 35's already on it so I didn't know how a stock Tundra drove.

With all that I have done to my truck it is definitely WAY MORE BAD ASS as far as just normal driving, acceleration, and over all driving / handling performance than the stock truck. Tow Haul mode seems twice as good as stock. We went for a ride in my truck after the test drive and he agreed that mine performed WAY BETTER in every way. He said that it was the best lifted big tire set up Tundra that he's driven. Said that they do a lot of lifts and tires but but mine was the first on gears and the LSD. Said it was defiantly a MUST HAVE for sure if your going with big wheels & tires and a lift but the additional 3700 bucks was going to be very hard to sell.

We had been discussing all of my mods previously and they had only done my gears and LSD so they were interested in how my set up was working out as they are getting into doing more and more of these kind of mods vs sending customers away for this kind of work and them going to mom and pop or other national 4x4 shops for the work.

Exceptional mod but the price is whats killing it. Too bad Toyota dose not get this and offer it as a factory upgrade. I told them years ago to make a 4 door FJ and instead they quit making them all together. They didn't listen to that or to me when I said that when you make a Diesel Tundra I will buy one of those too.

Hmm the Toyota dealer installed yours? I wasn't sure they'd install aftermarket parts

I talked them into it. Since the Nitro's come with all OEM seals and bearings and the kit is totally complete. I guess that it made them feel much better knowing that most of the the parts were stamped "Made in Japan"

(They also had a mechanic who said that he would do it and that had done this before someplace else where he had worked.)

4 wheel parts sells and installs the G2's and the Auburn LSD (G2's are made by Auburn as well) and will install them.

They are a very good source and should provide a waranty

Okay fellas, it’s my duty to give my opinion so far on these Nitro 4.88 Gears. Just got it back this morning.. crazy situation over bearings but w/e.. so I do feel a difference from the get go.. it’s not as sluggish, but to be honest.. it’s definitely not as much as I was thinking it was going to be.. I havent hit the freeway yet. I’ll do that on my way to work today, and report back with another Rant and Rave..

I just pulled 9000#s of trailer and gear 2000 miles with mine. Almost half way to Alaska. No way that I could do this with the stock gears. Montana 1.jpg Montana 2.jpg

Pics were taken just south of Helena, Montana.

Well, did the Freeway test.. feels 100% better than stock.. accelerated a lot better, doesn’t feel quite stock, but it’s close.. definitely a must have with these size tires and rims..
