Oh yeah, gonna be so “salty” when my supercharged 5.7 that’s paid off and coming in 20k less than a new truck; runs dead even with a brand new truck in a hypothetical race that never happens. A new truck that has the advantage of a brand new Factory boosted engine with 16 years of technological advancement, several more gears to work with, and a hot tune that just voided the factory warranty. Plus don’t forget, a new engine with zero track record of reliability. All of this wrapped up in historically one of the least reliable brands ever produced. If anyone is going to be salty it’s going to be the guy in his brand new truck making $800 payments every month that can’t out run an old dinosaur running on a few pounds of boost.

As for towing with the SC, there is no comparison. It gets the same if not better mileage and pulls incredibly well. I pull my 32’ camper all over and never need more than 1/2 throttle and 3,000rpm to maintain any speed I want on the hills.

So no, a boosted 5.7 isn’t going to be the fastest truck at the drag strip which very few people take their truck to anyway. For the money it’s probably one of the best combinations of towing power, acceleration, and reliability I can get for what I packaged together for 40 grand. The point is, anyone looking to upgrade from their 2nd gen tundra to get into a 3rd gen whose main priority for doing so is power, would be silly to not consider just boosting the V8 they already own.

    I need a 1/2 ton truck for my job/life.

if I wanted to get a new truck, it would be quite a quandary.

    I have always appreciated V8's.

I have never driven a turbo car. I have driven numerous turbo diesel trucks.

I would certainly consider the new Tundra. it appears to meet all my needs. at the end of the day, I probably would not purchase it.

(driving a S/C Tundra is ideal. <chef's kiss> it does exactly what I want a truck to do. )

I imagine if I HAD to get a new truck - I would seriously look at the F250 supercrew 4x4 w/7.3 gas...adding the upcoming Harrop S/C kit for it. Mega-Godzilla?

I've really struggled with the decision to move to a new Tundra. The new power train "feels" good but I miss the V8 rumble. I'm selling my 2021 Ram limited to buy a 2023 Tundra Platinum. Going from the HEMI with a Borla Atak catback to this new V6TT really sucks from a sound perspective.

How many of you have driven the I-Force Max Hybrid Tundra? Very few, I’m guessing because they are all sold prior to delivery. I own one now & test drove the regular gas twin turbo several times. The hybrid is a game changer compared to the twin turbo which I thought was great. I looked at and drove the 7.3 Godzilla but way more torque with the hybrid Tundra & better gas mileage overall works for me. My needs are a daily driver & pulling a 7k camper in extended trips in the summer. I’ll just say this. If you have the opportunity to drive the I-Force Max, you better jump on it. The hybrid battery steps in where turbo lag would be & makes it butter smooth.

:rofl:I’m going to venture a guess that a forum full of Toyota enthusiasts are in no way salty that Ram is doing anything. There is literally no new thing that Ram is going to do in their 1500s that is going to make me think it’s a good idea to own one. Ram trucks are here for a good time, not a long time. Their used value testifies to this.

My truck is here for a good time AND a long time. (COUGH) kinda like your obviously dependable 2007 that you seem to shit on given every chance. (/COUGH)
Right. Every choice is borne out of deep-seated subconscious insecurity. It couldn’t simply be because it’s fun, cheaper than a new truck, and relatively headache free as far as SC’ing is concerned.

Goosetuned Raptor will run low 4's 0-60.

That aside, the 3.4 TT from Toyota is lighter than the V8, more fuel efficient, more powerful in stock configuration, but reliability is unknown.

I would love to have to have the 5.7 V8 mated to a 10 speed though, anyone asking for the 6 speed is out of their mind.

Speaking generally not about Tundra or even Toyota, but about N/A vs old all-metal turbo vs new age plastic turbo... Once I've had all 3 kinds of the same base engine at the same time and was driving all of them.

I liked the old turbo the most for its old school WOOOSH spirit and relative dependability. But it died of oil consumption related problems at 220k miles (and I've rebuilt it, yes).

The newer Ford-inspired turbo engine started having serious problems at 40k miles, despite using Amsoil SS and Red Line at 5k interval all its life. It was 3 months out of warranty when I had to repair the engine. It was replaced with 5.7 Sequoia btw :)

Now, about N/A engine. It has considerably less parts in engine compartment, it runs much cooler, nothing is thermally stressed under the hood. It never stresses its transmission, it lives s long life until valve body falls out of tolerance and gives up. These engines are known to run a couple of decades, until compression rings run out and the engine looses compression.

I personally grew over the speeding age and simply need a large vehicle that requires minimal attention and can take me there and back, no matter what. Which 5.7 is for. If I wanted a fun to drive car, I'd buy something designed for fun, something that at least steers not like a huge boat on wheels, like honestly all trucks do. Mazerati or Alfa Romeo, for example, if not BMW.

Name to post content correlation is high.

Race ‘em when they gat 300,000 miles on the clock. How fast will you be able to throw that PBR can the F-150 was recycled into before hitting 300,000?

This right here for me! It sent me down a rabbit hole of looking into LX570 8 speeds. I know people have swapped Sequoia AWD/lockable transfer cases into Tundras, not to find out how LX parts fit.

The new 10 speed is geared for the 3.4TT’s torque curve. Dropping it into a 5.7 truck would not give the results you are looking for.

Yes, but you understand the principle, didn't think I had to state that they are not actually suited for each other in the current configuration. I'd rather have a 10 speed designed for the 5.7 V8 than the 3.4 TT.

That’s the best part, this is hardly a debate among 2nd and 3rd gen owners over the merits of the 2 drivetrains this thread was intended for. It has devolved into a 2nd gen owner with years of good ownership experience (yet a surprisingly loathful attitude toward them), and a F150 owner who interjects with ecoboost BS into every thread with seemingly no actual interest in tundras. Their sole goal to argue that engines from different manufacturers are superior to the 5.7 ON A TUNDRA FORUM for reasons I don’t understand. It’s no wonder threads go off on a tangent. If you want to talk ecoboosts and hurricanes vs tundras, make a separate thread for it.

Why can’t Toyota just give us a smaller turbo v8/10speed in a 1ton payload capable Tundra? :angrygirl:

I might not hang onto my truck for 15 years if they did that…

I'm kinda surprised Toyota hasn't built a Tundra with a supercharged V8 that gets 40MPG on regular gas, tows 20,000lbs, has a 5000lb payload, comes fully kitted out for offroading, has that nice smooth ride for daily driving and comes in at under $50,000. :annoyed::poking:
