Looking at scooping up a Honda Foreman and am wondering if it will fit in the 5.5 bed? Just looking at specs doesn't seem so. Anyone have one or done it and able to close the tailgate?

The answer us no, it won’t fit in a 5.5 ft bed with the tailgate closed.

My previous quad was a 2000 Honda Rancher 350, that JUST fit snugly in my 6.5’ bed with the tailgate closed.

Current is a 2016 Honda Rancher 420 and I can’t close the tailgate, have to strap it 2/3 to 3/4 closed with a 6.5’ bed. This machine has the same frame size as the current 500/520 models.

Thanks for the reply. Since you own a Rancher, you pleased with it? I've had Yamahas but want to go Honda this time. It will be for light duty work once in a while, some light trail riding and getting deer out of my swampy area during hunting season. My current ATV is a Yamaha Kodiack 400 and it fit fine in my old Ford super duty with a 6 3/4 bed. These Hondas must be looong.

Yup, I like it a lot. Bought it lightly used a couple years ago, had to replace the O2 sensor (part was upgraded to resolve the issue) and have a bit of a persistent squeak on the steering stem bushing. Otherwise it has been great.

It is the IRS model so slightly longer wheelbase than the solid rear axle, one of them might just squeak into a 6.5’ bed. The front “nose” is long compared to the older quads, but that applies to most newer brands / models.

Dads '16 rancher 420 fits in a 6.5ft bed. You have bigger tires?

i also like the rancher. It doesnt get ridden enough, so ive had to change a fuel pump, but its beefy enough to haul 1000lbs of rock all over my yard.

I do have bigger tires now, but even with the stock 24” it didn’t happen. That must be a solid rear axle model? Muffler is on the opposite side as mine. The solid rear models are a bit shorter wheelbase.

I've had a Foreman since 2015 and I'd say it would be great for your type of use, particularly if long term reliability is an important factor. I use mine primarily for taking care of a rural property and light trail riding. I went with electronic shifting and power steering as well, and highly recommend both if it fits the budget. A friend who has wrenched on dirt bikes and 4 wheelers for decades told me to get a Honda if I wanted minimal problems.

Got the Rancher 420 4x4 w/ electric shift. The Foreman w/ foot shift sold a day before. I wasn't sure on the foot shifter because at times I'm rocking big boots and didn't want to fight the boot under the shifter. So I'm good w/ the electric shift. Got the straight axle. So far very pleased with it.
