anything for the rear air leveling suspension yet? also.. dummy question, but if I don't intend to rock crawl or off road the truck do I benefit from changing out the stock suspension ? looking for a smooooooth on road experience. thanks in advance.

What OE suspension package do you have on your truck right now? TRD OR, TRD Sport, or a base 4WD?

One consistent thing I've heard is that most suspension upgrades...whether it be Icon, King, Fox, or something else...is that is vastly improves the ride quality over the TRD OR.

I haven't seen anyone compare aftermarket to a base 4WD suspension, so I can't weigh in on that.

I'm assuming this is accurate, but I'm not 100% sure. If it is, this is kinda cool to keep in the back of everyone's mind as they think through bigger suspension upgrades. I think I'm going to continue to run with the OE TRD OR axles for now, but this is good info if I start slinging grease after the new suspension install.

TrakMotive (aftermarket axle company, if you've never heard of them) claims to now have an extended travel CV axle for the 2022 Tundra.

$114/ea on RockAuto.com. P/N is TO8250XTT. Same P/N for the right & left, which I found to be odd since the OE axle P/Ns are different for the right & left.

Technical Detail from TrakMotive's online parts catalog:

    Listing on RockAuto.com:

TrakMotive's part catalog also confirms it:

That would be nice. I wonder if they'll replace the need to use the sway bar drop bracket or will be used in combination with.

In case anyone is in the market for Icon stuff, Poly Performance has some stuff in stock as of this afternoon. Just ordered 2.5” CDCV coilovers and rear shocks after confirming availability. Should ship out Monday or Tuesday. Also cheaper than direct from IVD even with their fall sale.

Long time listener, first time poster here.... however my line of thinking for those of us with rear air bags...is that we have the option to swap out the front end with better components (TRD, Icon, King, Radflow, etc) but the rear focus is only centered on the position of the arms. Why not also upgrade the shock in the rear? Either with something slightly longer to accommodate the lift via the arms (and thus not maxing out the shock travel) and/or to simply just provide stronger/better components. I understand most trucks with air in the rear are not going to run the baja 500 but for those that do the occasional off-roading it could provide beneficial, right?

So if looking at something like the ICON 2.5 coilover kit (purely as an example), couldn't that be paired with a shock they also offer?

I'm trying to understand how Westcott claims their 3/1 lift does not change the geometry of the suspension.
Can someone here point me to a YouTube video or infographic that dumbs this down for me?
I've already reviewed the videos on Westcotts site and it's not helpful.

This post will do the best job at explaining the engineering of various lifts: https://www.tundras.com/threads/guide-different-types-of-lifts.546/

If you want a shadetree mechanic's cliff notes summary & answer to your question:
Westcott's system is a pre-load & spacer hybrid system. In a cheaper, spacer-only lift...the entire coilover assembly is pushed down by the spacer "puck" which causes an extreme angle. In a "pre-load" system, the the pre-load collar is "squeezing" the spring, forcing it upward. This keeps the lower control arm in a relatively normal position. Their system gets most of its lift from the preload and only a little bit from a small spacer (that is optional) at the top.

    Hope that helps.

This helps quite a bit. Am I reading too much into "pre-load" as it seems to make me believe this will lead to premature wear on the components.

Probably not reading too much into it. It'll definitely cause additional wear. That's why most higher end suspension lift kits, whether they have new coils or use a new coil/pre-load combo (Icon, King, Fox, etc), come with a bunch of new components. They'll usually come with new UCAs, sway bar brackets or links, and sometimes include things like extended axles, rear upper & lower links, etc.

However, even the best suspension lifts will cause still some form of additional wear elsewhere in the suspension. Ball joints, bushings, etc. The truth is...no matter what the marketing departments at King, Fox, Icon, and other companies tell you...the only way to not cause any additional wear is to just keep your truck 100% stock. If you're lifting your truck, you have to accept that.

I guess for a curb crawler, it's my best option?

Yup. For a pavement princess...or even for light off roading...the Westcott system is pretty good. 100% better than any spacer-only lift.

Check out some of @RevereOverland's early overland videos with his 3rd Gen Tundra. He ran the Westcott system for awhile until he got his hands on the Adventure Motor's suspension lift. It'll give you a good idea of what capabilities the Westcott kit can handle. He was able to tackle the trail up to the Reward Mine in Cali, but that was about as technical as he could get with it.

With the exception of a drop bracket lift on an IFS front end, all these lifts options will change the front end geometry at your selected ride height. Lift is achieved by changing the angle of the control arms. Top cap spacer or preloading the coil are just two different ways of changing that control arm angle and thus ride height. You also sacrifice a corresponding amount of down travel in either case. CVs and ball joints etc don't care how you achieve this and will wear faster either way. The closer you stay to stock height, the longer life you'll get out of the CVs and other front suspension components and the more down travel you will preserve. Always a trade off when we start messing with factory geo and ride height.

I read through the entire thread again, in awe of the wisdom here. I was thinking of going with the TRD lift but seems to be a compromise in a lot of ways, shock size, rear spacer etc. I’m interested in a mix of the TRD lift kit with OME, Icon or Dobinson’s for the optimal mix. Is anyone going this way, I’d love to use the TRD UCAs and bright red coils if they’re worthy. If anyone comes up with a parts list of the best combination that works together I’d be all ears. I’m also going to reach out to Adventure Motors (just learned about them from this thread) and see if they’ve done anything like this. I’ll report back

I've been looking at the cornfed kit, which is a 2"x1" (front/back). Their front is a combo like Westcott. I don't do a ton of off-roading, mostly snow and forest roads. Right now I'm stuck between that kit and just getting the M1 adjustable coilover from Rough Country for the front. The spacer kit is $160, the coilover alone is $500. Do you think I'd be getting my money out of that kit? PS I'd love to do something from Bilstein or Eibach, but I've contacted both and they are still in R&D. So maybe cornfed and wait to do the coilover front next year?

If I recall correctly, they did you something with a combination of parts but it's not on YouTube, I think it was a Facebook post. It's been awhile... Month or so.

I called Adventure Motors this morning and spoke with Michael. It was a very informative conversation. I took notes and learned a great deal. I received an estimate based on our call (below). I live within a day's drive (10hours) of their shop and if I go this route I'm considering driving down and having it installed in-house. It seems like a mix of Fox, Dobinson's, and Toyota will make an amazing overall setup. Mike said that the good stuff in the TRD lift is the CV axle, front lower knuckles, front sway bars, and UCA. I especially want the TRD UCA. In the quote below they're not listed but I've asked for that to be revised.

2022 Tundra Combo Lift Kit - Fox / Dobinson IMS - Fox 2.0 Performance Front Coilovers - C59-559V Rear Coils - IMS59-60687 Rear Shocks - Pro Comp Tubular Front Upper Control Arms (have requested these be the TRD instead) - Adventure Motors Rear Sway Bar Bracket - Adventure Motors Rear Stainless Steel Brake Lines - DBF212 - Front Duro Bump stops - PR59-1421 Dobinson Panhard Bar

I have Westcott’s 3/2 lift and I installed helper bags (Firestone 4164’s) as a temporary measure for the rear end sag under load. In the last 6 weeks I’ve put on 4500 miles as I’m moving out of state and the right side was cut by the spring so I installed a new bag. Last week I was towing a car hauler the right side leaked again and then shortly after the left one exploded. Like BOOM. We sagged all the way to Montana. I’m over that option. I picked up OME 2864’s and got them installed yesterday. I am at my extended family’s home and all my stuff is in PODS so I only have visual references for the lift.

My truck isn’t quite fully loaded for off road but my guess is between the RTT, rack, cargo slide, PullKitchen, fridge, half Bedslide I’m at about 525-550lbs.

It currently sits 1” higher in the rear with 2864’s, 2” spacer removed.

Before the springs my fist would just about be touching the fender flare.

Nice. I think you'll find the new springs a simpler and more reliable solution than airbags. Your truck looks solid...as always.

I saw they released their 3.0 shock body kits: Stages 1-3 up to a 3.5” lift a couple of weeks ago. 6” is pretty crazy.

I wonder if they’ll advertise this as a long travel kit? Hard to tell from the teaser video but it doesn’t look like they’re utilizing a big diff drop bracket like ProComp and Rough Country. Looking forward to seeing what this kit includes and the design behind it.

Alright need some help with springs. Currently running Dobinsons c59-559v (2in lift no load, 440/470 height 19mm wire height) in the rear. Since I put on my topper and loaded decked system I sitting with a micro amount of sag and zero rake. I’ll be putting on my c4 rear bumper as well (another 160lbs).

what rear spring so I need to get me some rake again? OME look good in the 2864, but they are noticeably shorter when I tried comparing them.

my front coil overs are set at about 2-2.5 lift, so if I go too high in the back I have room to adjust the front up some more.

dobinson c59-167 would be my first inclination. Linear rate spring is going to hold the additional load higher in the spring compression.

Give Dobinson a call, they are quite helpful with this type of stuff.
