Yeah might just go that route. Did you scuff it up at all before painting or just clean it and let it rip?

Quickest for emblems is plasti-dip. Tape off around the badge, thoroughly clean and lay down a bunch of heavy coats. Peel tape and remaining plasti-dip off the paint and Bobs your uncle. Did it on my 4runner 3 or 4 years ago and its starting to get a little light around the edges but still looks good and easily touched up.

Plastidipped mine last night and it came out great. We will see how long it lasts. Once it starts to peel and/or get scratched I'll just sand and paint it.

No need to even take the time to tape it off, at least on a Gen3. You can pop it out of the grille with 3 tabs on the back. Takes all of about 5 seconds.

That one is easy, I was referring to all of the other badges around the truck that are double stick taped on :D

Ah gotcha. No worries there in my case as I took them all off! Truck looks way better de-badged IMO.

I just recently blacked out my emblems using HyperDip. Easy to work with and its fairly cheap, and once you tired of it, you can just peel it off. Lays on pretty clean & smooth. better then regular plastidip.

Did you take the badges off, or just tape around them? They look great!

I taped around. So just like any other plastidip, you leave about an inch of space around your emblem and you spray 3-4 tac coats and 6-8 wet coats. once its thick and dry, you peel the edges and it automatically cuts itself at the lettering. Easy to use, lots of videos on their site on how to do. it withstood a pressure wash already too.

I bought the emblem kit that comes with 2.
I just recently bought the grill and window trim kit that gets here today. Going to try it on the window trims, mustache and rear bumper panels.
I got quoted for vinyls from 6-7 places and all were expensive. Lowest was $700 and their reviews weren’t great. I figured I can dip everything for under $200. If it comes out great, perfect, if not, I can just peel it and I haven't lost too much money.
so far I’m digging the emblems

here is a close up of the other ones. And btw the handle overlays I got from Amazon which came matte black are also coated with hyperdip to match the color of the emblems. I used “Shadow Black” which is a satin finish

I’m selling my emblem covers if anyone is interested. They are for 2022 limited. I’m going to hyperdip mine instead. I paid $130 for the covers.

Here is the tailgate handle and rear bumper panels I HyperDip'd yesterday. FYI, the amount of spray used goes up exponentially vs. surface area. Just for reference, I used 2 cans for 6 emblems, and 4 door handles. The tailgate handle and rear bumper panels took 2 cans of their own. Next up is mustache, fender flares and window trim (Need a full day off since I have to disassemble bumper and flares to change grill and have a clean finish).

Do you have a link or seller name for those door handles? Can't seem to find them on Amazon.

I purchased the layover emblem featured in this posting and was not satisfied with the fitment of the emblem. This is listed as Genuine Toyota part #PT948-34222-02
but fits like it's 3rd party. During the application process the item never lays completely flat on all surfaces of the Toyota emblem and therefore never felt secure. Application surface was prepped with 70% alcohol, currently awaiting feedback from the seller.

Phase 3: hyperdip’d the front mustache and front emblem, when I took off the limited grill and swapped with a TRD grill.

I'm having trouble popping off my emblem. I can get the bottom tab to release, but the 2 sides don't seem to budge. Is there a trick to it. Thanks

No trick. Just push the tab inward toward the center of the emblem and pull outward on the emblem with other hand at the same time.
Edit: you can also push on the tab from inside to push out and in at the same time.
