I've had a honda EU2000 for 10 years or more still runs great with no issues. It has gotten us through 2 storms where we were without power for more than a week. Its also great for camping, tailgating. It sips gas and runs extremely quiet.

My old boss is from Florida, still uses the Honda generator he bought for Hurricane Andrew (1992), and it’s still more efficient than the new ones his neighbors have from Home Depot.

    you are doing it wrong.
Get the cheapest, loudest one you can find, run a long extension cord so you can put it right next to your camping neighbours. Bonus points for pointing the exhaust towards them as well.
    Now you are camping.

Regardless of what you get, try to run ethanol free gas in it. You will have fewer issues, especially if you go for long periods without running it.

Several of my small engine yard equipment like chainsaw, weed eater and mower had problems when I ran ethanol in them as it seemed to eat the gaskets and clog the jets. A station near me here has what is called blue gas and it is ethanol free.

I pulled the trigger and purchased the Honda 2200i from Sportsman's Warehouse. I was actually getting anxious if I was going to be able to find one as many places have them on backorder or unavailable. I am surprised at how light this unit actually is and it seems well built. I am going to get a locking kit to store it in the bed of my truck when camping. Thank you everyone for the info, suggestions and help.

I can only speak for Honda, but I adore the one I have for work. I cannot think of anything more reliable. Quiet, portable, small (I typically place it on the floor board in front of the passenger seat.

Never thought of that. No problem yet after 5+ years of use. To be honest its the funnel that is the most handy.

    Exactly this ^^^

There are some pretty good alternatives available now... Champion, Westinghouse, HF Predator, etc. if you really don't wanna' spend the money or you want dual fuel out of the box (Honda's can be converted) but for portable generators Honda is the gold standard by which everything else is measured.

The Honda 2200 has a bigger motor than it's 2000W predecessor (121cc vs 98cc... lots of the other brands are 79cc) so it doesn't need to throttle up as much when you put a load on it... just chugs along super quietly.

Honda will last you for decades.

I had a Westinghouse 2200 for awhile... There was a LOT of stuff to buy when we got our RV and I just didn't want to have the $1,000 generator conversation with my wife  so I got the $500 Westinghouse.
It performed adequately, and was reasonably quiet... had to throttle up pretty high to run the AC or microwave, but whatever.

At idle, it was fairly quiet in terms of dB, but it was a different tone than the Honda... kind of a "Ting, Ting. Ting" note, where the Honda is more of a "Thump, Thump, Thump" sound. So while it probably wouldn't "meter" much louder, I think the ear perceives it to be slightly louder. Not terrible, but you always hear it, while the Honda noise just kinda' disappears after a while.

When Honda came out with the 2200 and I had the money, I jumped on it and would highly recommend the "Buy once, cry once" approach for this.

Nice feature of the 2200 is the fuel shutoff, so you can cut fuel and it'll run itself dry so you don't have old gas sitting in the float bowl to varnish.

(Wifey and dogs in there napping comfortably while the Honda pays for itself):bananadance:

If you don't have it yet okay soft start or easy start for your air conditioner. I can run my I-Power 2k with the AC on high, battery charger, TV, fridge, fan, and whatever lights I want on and it will sit about half throttle on eco mode with no problems. Generator sits in a "dog house" about 2ft from the wall where my bed is and I can fall asleep easily. Sitting at just under 900hr on it I think.

 Haven't done it yet, but it's on my list. (It's a big list) :rofl:I'm letting my wife recover from the sticker shock of the 600W of solar I did, and the two LiFePO4 batteries I'm about to do before I spring this one on her. Lol

When I turn on the AC I'll turn on FAN only first, and then the AC so it's two smaller hits rather than one big one. Basically a manual soft start.

The Micro-Air Easy Start is a super popular mod on the Lance Owners forum I belong to.

Yeah, even with the Easy Start, I am in the habit of putting it on low first for a couple minutes, then crank it up to high.
My next upgrade is Renogy Rover 100A controller. That will cover all the panels I could possibly want to mount on my trailer and not have to run multiple controllers.
