I have a 2010 Tundra with non jbl. Debating on upgrading hu to add apple car play. The more i think about it, the more i just want to upgrade speakers and amp and just have my ipad connect to stock hu. The ipad would give me everything i wanted, music, maps, entertainment…any reason not to?

Depends on how it would look after it's mounted. I just did this head unit in my 2020.

Someone did mention recently that there used to be a dash mounted IPad mount that had brackets on each side of the radio and the Ipad slid in from the top.

Look at this guy from CA. I watched a lot of his videos on youtube.com. He also does installs but its pretty expensive.

Here is my iPad setup. Power up and shut down do not synch with car key on/off operation but otherwise good enough for me. Been using this for 2 years as music server thru DAC to aux or bt to hu. Also google and waze navigation and gopro camera connection and others regular apps.
