I had only done fxr retrofits with the steelstik method and nut and bolt method.. for exact alignment but mini d2s 4.0 performance is not one to be ignored so I went for it this time around. Super easy retrofit process! Your guide with the shaving tips helped a lot.

Haven't finished yet. Waiting on another pair of shrouds since I changed my mind.. was originally going with xsb halos behind the normal panameras but then I changed my mind to the panamera drl lol.. and then I tried to tint the amber reflectors but the vht nightshade ate a layer of the plastic as it dried.

So waiting on the shrouds, reflectors, and some tack cloth to rub my paint down.

From the test fitting though I'm fairly impressed by the mini's performance with the cbis

 

Gotcha, sounds like it will be a nice setup.

 

It'll be fairly simple.. no led strips or anything like that.. but I did give a go at trying to achieve the passive white demon eye.. painted the shields white with some epoxy caliper paint. Hopefully they are as good as I hope they turn out to be!

@trsandrew , I already installed your XSB LED Demon eyes in my retro, if I add the XSB 3.0 LED DRLs do I need both "Driver's" on each headlight or can I use one to control both the demon eye and DRL on each headlight?

I would explore this site as well as others to really get a lot of info on retrofits. There are so many options and it's great to get them the way you like them the first time. I wanted to go simple, so I did. I blacked out my reflector bowl and bezel, but kept the side marker lenses orange for safety. I didn't use a shroud that lights up like the panorama, but I did go with demon eyes for s subtle effect. Sometimes I contemplate adding an LED DRL strip to them, but for some odd reason I like the stock orange/amber DRL's. It's all about preference and what YOU like best.

 

@MotoTundra OMG excellent detailed write up. Sub'd so I can go through this when I do mine! I'm thinking of using everything u did but use a shroud with an LED so I can use that as my DRL. Have any recommendation on shrouds w/ LED to use for DRL?

 

Sire thing, glad it can help. I'm not too familiar with shrouds that light up, but I know Morimoto has the panamera and panamera switchback LED. I would assume they will work but I think an LED DRL strip would be much brighter. Someone else can give you better info on them than I though.

I will say I really like all my Morimoto stuff. If I were to do another I will go with all Morimoto again.

Thanks, much appreciated! It isn't cheap to buy a retro, but if you can pull it off yourself, it's not too pricey. The hope was that this would help the guy debating on trying it for the first time.

I basically bought all my stuff from TRS with the exception of the spray paint and a few other little things.
They usually have a black Friday sale, that's when I bought my stuff so I saved a little bit.

Pretty much everything @MotoTundra had in his shopping list with the exception of LEDs & Halo parts since i'm OK with old school amber DRLs.

If my memory serves me correctly, my wallet felt lighter by $402. I didn't use coupons, i'm impatient and tired of driving in the rain with zero visibility. (interesting side note, since i ordered my lights, it's not rained in my part of NC - I hereby apologize to my neighbors now on water restrictions, I do feel somewhat responsible)

 

Awesome! I too love the old school amber DRL's, I only went with LED demon eyes which are powered independently so I kept my amber DRLs. The demon eyes look cool but it's rare that it is dark and I don't have my headlights on. Not a waste, but they are seldom seen. They are meant to be subtle, so they aren't very noticeable during the day.
