Thanks for the info seeing your install makes me want one, i was undecided on the 9 or 10 inch.

I only hope i can do as well as you did with the install. It looks like you made slots on the stock bracket to push the unit back as far as you can.

    Looks perfect to me.

Ya, I still love mine today and wouldn't change a thing. I never liked the whole floating screen thing...not how they do it in some vehicles or aftermarket in my truck. I was very pleasantly surprised when the 10" unit fit so nicely sunk into the dash. It seriously almost looks like a stock setup

got mine installed today after hours of trying lol

How does one mount the lcd to the head unit? When you have it almost flush with the dash there is no room.

That's what i did to it's a huge pain especially when you get it all back together and find out your backup camera got un-plugged.

Yep, connect it first. It is a pita, but once you find the right setting, it's easy to pull the unit in and out.

I did mine just like you right down to cutting the Dash trim. Had a hell of a time getting the trim pieces behind the screen because the head unit would not fit with them already installed.

I like these but I don't think the upgrade is worth it compared to the Pioneer that I have now. If I did get one, it would have to be the 7600 because of my phone mount. I have the 2550 Nex and I have wireless AA via the Motorola MA1 wireless adapter. I would also have to figure out a way to get it as flush as possible with the dash kit so that the AC panel can be secured at the top.

I’m looking at adding the Kenwood or pioneer down the road because I want the bigger screen and yes it will make my sound system even better. Any regrets with anyone on the pioneer. I figured most on here have had them for quite sometime.

    Nothing.... yet.
Regarding the ac unit being secure...

What I did was take a few thin strips of rubber ibhad laying around, crazy glued them together to get the right thickness, and then double-sided taped them to the top corner on either side. Creates a wedge effect that really tightens up as you push the ac unit back in. I'll take some pictures and post. I had considered fashioning a bracket from the bottom portion of the dash kit, that was held in bt the two lower mounting bolts of the HU. This method was easier.

Another option would be to just really REALLY trim down the dash kit. But that might need more trimming than the dash kit would enable...

I’ve got the Pioneer 7600. No regrets whatsoever. I can’t say it’s flawless - every so often it won’t connect wirelessly. Not nearly enough to be a bother. I would purchase again.

I have the 8600 and no regrets. I’ll echo that connectivity is not flawless, there is an occasional (thankfully brief) hiccup every now and again.

I also have mixed emotions on my big screen: love the big screen, but also like the built in look that is only achieved with the dash kit.

But boxing the factory head unit and hiding it in the attic where it belongs? …. Priceless.

8600 here. I too have no regrets. It's not perfect, but nothing is. The audio and visual improvements are very nice and other features like the ability to display transmission temp or program your steering wheel buttons make it totally worth it IMO. I also installed it flush with the dash as I like the "stock" built-in look.

Question for anyone with connection on this headunit. Do you use the Maistro to connect with your oem XM antenna or does the headunit come with the XM antenna and you leave it behind the headunit?

@texasrho83 isn't yours connected to the OEM antenna? I have an XM receiver behind my headunit that went along with my old Pioneer. I think the antenna adapter still uses the OEM? I can't remember now.

Years ago when I had my 15 Tacoma with aftermarket system and pioneer headunit my installer could not connect with my oem XM antenna. So he put the XM antenna behind the headunit and no issues with receiving a signal. That’s why I asking.

The Maestro doesn't touch it. It's a separate adapter that plugs into the XM unit.
