Toytec Boss on its way!

I just took advantage of the Toytec Labor Day sale and ordered the Boss 2.0 kit with SPC UCAs and adjustable rear shackles. Have any of you installed one of these kits yourself? I installed an OME 3" lift on my Tacoma by myself, and it was about three days, mainly because of the Add-A-Leaf and UCAs, and no one to help hold the heavy stuff. The Toytec is going on a 2018 Tundra 4x4 and tracking says it will be here tomorrow. I'm debating between installing it myself and having a shop do it. Thoughts?

 

I have a Toytec setup on mine. I installed it myself. You can download the instructions from their site.....at least the coilover sheets are on there.

 

Its easy enough to do yourself. I did SPC uca's and front coilovers in my garage.

 

That's the route I'm thinking to go. Then I can put the installation money into wheels instead.

 

I did 6112's in the front myself. It was doable, but i dont think i would want to do that again.

My vote is to take it to a shop

 

I use this with my Fox 2.0 and toytech rear shackle, finished it in 5 hrs, with UCA 6-7 hrs should be enough.
Always start the thread by hand, use the impact til the nuts and bolts just touch and finish off with torque wrench, use silver paint marker to mark the finished nuts and bolts.

 

If you have a lift at your house go for it. Otherwise, I’ve done too many on the floor of the garage with jacks and stands to wish that evil on you so I vote take it to a shop.

 

Haha, yep. Crawled around on my pavers for two days. Bruised hips and knees, but it’s lifted now.

 

Oof…go HF and get some mover blankets

 

Also did it all with hand tools. Never again. Next time I'll splurge on some power.

 

I always keep a couple folded pieces of large cardboard for laying on the driveway

 

hard to work on ground, don’t have room to break lose all the bolts…

Same here. It stays in the bed of the truck actually.

 

Don't forget balljoint grease if you haven't done it already. Its easy to forget.

Just got some from O’Rielly. They only had their brand but said it was the right stuff. I hope they’re right.

 

Haven’t driven it yet. I will tomorrow when I take it in for the alignment.

Also take the SPC sheet in case they don't know what the positions mean or how to adjust it.

 

That one is sitting on the passenger seat These guys aligned my Tacoma after lifting and did a great job. I hope they're as good with the Tundra.

 

with pretty much minimal experience installing lifts and only using hand tools i installed mine along with a diff drop and uca's. YouTube has opened the door to attempting these types of jobs.

 

Yeah, I got it all done. The hardest part was getting the front sway bar links to fit back in. Had to remove the sway bar from the frame, get the links in, then jack the LCAs back up until the bar met the frame again. Not a fun task at all.

 

Just got back from alignment. The tech said he had to do it three times to get it right, but the ride home felt good and straight. However, he said he's not a fan of the SPC "style" UCAs because the ball joint can slide after adjustment. Has anyone experienced this?

 

solo installing a lift is such a polarizing event. one one hand you picked up another skill, have better familiarity with your vehicle and saved yourself over a grand. on the other you get a sore back from tugging on wrenches, remove all the skin from your knuckles and use a years worth of f-bombs
