Finished this little paring knife today. The handle is a piece of the same spalted beech that I used for that last chefs knife I posted 0C0BFBEC-FDE9-4542-922C-5A7A728D6BA3.jpg454E587E-950A-4623-991C-848A54B58658.jpg58692821-8F6E-4506-93E8-FD366636BDF2.jpgThe client is coming to pick up the chefs knife on Sunday and I thought I would surprise them with the potential of a matched set. If they don’t want it, I will have it available.

Have you ever noticed how when you buy a knife ‘set’, they always make all the handles the exact same shape? Usually some different sizes. They completely ignore the fact that different knives have distinctly different uses and require differing grip and motion.

I’m convinced that this is because the designer is rarely a cook or chef. He’s a graphic artist setting in a cubicle and then turns the design over to a machine shop.

You need to build a small, inexpensive display box that will accommodate both knives. Then when the client shows up, hand him the case w/just the chef's knife w/the spot for the pairing knife empty. Make sure the pairing knife is "displayed" close by as he opens the box. The client will have a feeling of void in his heart upon opening the box; and bam!!!!! As you hand him a perfectly weighted and fitting chef's knife, you calmly place the pairing knife in its proper home. SOLD!!!!!!

Yeah, that and I'd image it's just easier to use the same template to create multiple handle pieces at the same time….

If you look at the Amazon reviews there are actually multiple pictures of it, I think it's legit. I'm half tempted to buy it just to see people's reactions.

Lol. Any Kershaw below $90 is China. Doesn't necessarily mean bad quality, though I do understand people wanting to stick to USA ones only.

Very true. Likewise, not all dodge trucks are undependable and not all lottery tickets will be losers, lol. I don’t avoid Chinese and Pakistani made knives because of political reasons but because of general quality characteristics. Another good truth is that not all Cuban cigars are good cigars!

That meme makes way too many assumptions:

    1) That I’m robbing you. I never said anything about robbing anyone.
    2) That you knew it was coming and were able to get the gun out, off safety, etc before I was on you with the knife.
    3) That I lead with the knife, and not the tankalizer dart that was in your neck before you even knew I was in the vicinity.

Like I said, if I’m mad enough to kill someone it won’t be quick. They’re going to know exactly who’s killing them, and why they’re being killed. It will be the culmination of a well thought out plan that’s going to take place over the course of several days. It will be a very gradual process that involves knives and chupacabras.

All joking aside, I have personally been in some bad situations in my life and would 1000% prefer a gun to a knife always. There is no thrill in taking a life and it can haunt you for the rest of yours. It was just a funny meme I thought fit the situation. Nothing personal. Yes this is knife thread and yes I also enjoy knives, but would only use one in self defense or other situations if I didn’t have a gun available first……..now if you have a chupacabras available for defense/attack then that’s a game changer and all rules out the door…:eek2:

Hell, doing the “teaser” thing is complicated.
@ToyoMafia is a master at it.
I may as well show the whole knife all at once..870991F5-DDA9-4EE2-A006-EC73E0D11DE6.jpgDCA9923F-B40C-44BC-A358-27B0AC8CA03C.jpgThe scales are epoxy cast gum tree seed pods. That’s what is laying on the cutting board with the knife.

I don’t like to draw it out. You leave too much forensic evidence. After a clean head shot go get the pruner’s (for the fingers, hammer for the teeth and backhoe.
Bend the barrel of the gun and throw the parts off the bridge..

I never miss & in my last two units was only one of two that qualified expert with every single weapon we used (usually I don’t brag but today you got me)(I could always back up my statement posting copy of my dd214 listing all pistols, m4’s, shotguns, subs, DMR’s, etc, but nah I know and that’s all that matters)(heck most people don’t even realize under section of declarations/medals/awards/etc on their dd214 that it also lists this I think only if expert, someone else can confirm this) o_O
Hey we finally agree on something (not getting the point)…….
With a username like you have would think a knife or even a m4 would be below your choice and you would just go straight for the Mk19 and just f everything up. Don’t know if you’re taking any of this personal because I certainly am not. Yes I totally understand what your talking about being up and close and personal. Just giving you a hard time about knives vs guns. Each person has to choose what they would want to exact revenge on someone if they had to and hopefully no one reading this ever does!! It’s Friday afternoon my man………time to enjoy the finer things in life…..for me that is going to be…….:rasta:
    (Have a great weekend WM!!:hattip:)

Edit: to be honest I haven’t seen my actual dd214 in many years so may be off what it says. Just remember “expert” rifle/pistol/Grenade/and don’t recall others…..

To all that read/post/follow this thread:

Wanted to give a heartfelt apology for my last couple of posts in this thread. Thought about just deleting them but I am just one that believes in if you make a mistake just fix it and move on. Can’t hide the past, can only grow from it. This thread is supposed to be about knives not some posters arguing about knives vs guns in a particular situation. For my part I apologize. May sound “crazy” but I do take daily meds for a condition I struggle with and sometimes I miss them and go back to wanting to be that Alpha male who is never wrong and can take on anything/anyone. There is another thread that is older on this forum and talks about this condition and I have started twice to post my story in it in hopes I could possibly help one person but it is soooooooooooo hard to discuss. I can talk about trucks and guns all day but when it comes to a “defect” I call it that’s another whole thing. Letting people know your weakness is hard for some including me. I am learning and growing and that’s how we make this place (not just this forum, but the world) a better place. So to all on this thread my bad and I would love it if more posted pics of their custom blades…:hattip:

btw, does this thread allow us to talk about swords/Katanas too? I only have a few of them…..I recently started reading and studying about the Samurai and man talk about some serious lifestyle (honorable and fierce just a couple of adjectives for them)(older pic below):

I believe that jade kinda color accents the Asian aspect of the Gyuto blade.
You would not believe the time I spend deciding on the handle scales and liner materials. With the figured wood scales, I usually cut a handle pattern negative, allowing me to move it around on the piece of wood and see exactly where the grain lines will fall. Did that make sense?
