I checked a few threads on here, and most of the compressors were the typical 125-175 psi with a max 4.5 cfm rating.

I had a 30 gallon Craftsman that lasted 20 years (rebuilt twice) and for the most part it handled 60% of my jobs. I no longer have air tools and will never have them again (I do have staple/nail guns but a fart can run those). I also have a 10 gallon CO2 tank that is pretty good for around the house items but it has been getting rather spendy to refill it lately. So far this year I have refilled it 3 or 4 times at 29.00 each time.

One thing is I don't want an oilless one. They are stupid loud and I'm not that lazy to check or put oil in. If you really know me, I like buying quality and the buy once, cry once philosophy.

I my start painting a few body panels from time to time

I have looked at this compressor for around 400.00 (minus 10% military discount...ok, so that is just covers taxes...:eek2:):

I came across a deal on this Ridgid GP80150RTB gas powered compressor. Normally I would say hell no to a gas powered compressor, but this one is a little different and can be ran outside with a tank inside. I found one brand new for under 600.00.

    Any other recommendations?

I have the slightly smaller version of that, the makita MAC2400 and i absolutely love it. I too had an oil less craftsman for many years and I believe I have permanent hearing loss from it lol. That thing was so loud that I usually turned it on then went into the house until it was done. The makita is so quite that it’s easy to have a conversation as it’s running and standing right next to it.

I have a Jenny 8 gallon wheelbarrow compressor. Not as portable as some but if well maintained it may outlive me. I do plug it into 45 gallons of extra tank when I am in the shop.

Mine is a 1.5hp and it right around 6.5cfm at 90 psi. It is an 1,800 rpm compressor so it is quiet and smooth.

    Here she is: https://www.autotoolworld.com/Jenny...lectric-8-Gal-Tank-150V-or-230V_p_144894.html

I didn't pay that much but.....

Can't go wrong with the Makita, I've had this model for over 10 years. Been using it at job sites/home and hasn't been rebuilt yet..:fingerscrossed:

I wish I could help but I'm still using the Sears 2hp 20 gal compressor I bought fresh out of high school in 1975.

I have this one, since 2015, used it for my 10 ton frame machine. Never broke down. Still have it, still works

I have this one from Home Depot, it is awesome. It folds nicely to store in the truck. It is a bit bulky to pick up, but is manageable. The hose wrap is convenient and has a compartment for things. Not too loud either.

I have the makita you posted in your opening post. Happy with it. We use it commercially. It won’t work in cold temps…like below 0*. But most others won’t either. It’ll run two framing guns at a time without a problem. It’s a good all around design.

Good to know. There are two types of compressor oil for the seasons. Does Makita recommend that? Personally, it will most likely be in my garage and the coldest it has been in there is 56*.

I have that Makita you mentioned. I’ve had it probably for 4-5 years now. It has been awesome. Granted I don’t use it daily but no issues at all so far

I have the same one but only about 4 years old. It's the smallest oiled compressor I could find from a reputable manufacturer. It's around 50# which is a bit much if you're lugging it around from place to place all day but not bad for occasional moves. It's so quite (like a loud conversation) that I don't even need ear plugs.

Here is another that I would recommend, it's very quite and much lighter then the makita, I use it mainly for finish work..

i have the Mac5200 for the last few years. Its crazy powerful, but fairly loud.

My brother and dad both have the Mac2400 its surprisingly quiet and extremely compact. I think that if i were to go back in time i would get the 2400 over the 5200. Its really nice to have that extra power when i need it (rarely), but i never really run air tools since everything has gone battery now, and its loud enough i have to make sure no one is on a work call when i turn it on in the garage.

Today was the day. I need an air compressor.

Last week I pulled into discount tire pulling the gooseneck and all four tires needed a top off. Most were at 85-90 psi. Well I need 105psi cold. Come to find out, their tire check/fill station only goes up to 80psi and I would have to pull every single tire off individually and get the air from the tire machine. Yeah…no thanks.

Upon all the good recommendations from you fine people (and online reviews) I purchased a Makita 5200. I followed the fill/break in to the tee. I cannot believe how quiet this compressor is…blown away.

    Next up…power washer.

I almost purchased one. A guy had a 220V compressor with little use. I just don’t have a 220V outlet for it.

Maybe in the second garage. My 200A panel is tapped out.

I have one like that, under a different (no)brand name. It is indeed very quiet.

This Mac 5200 has worked wonders for me. I’ve used to install a few lifts as well as some cerakoting. It’s a great compressor

Nice purchase. I used mine this week to sheer off some copper Pex Connectors with an Rigid Agitator, worked great!

It is heavy though- I used to have a 1-1/2 HP Sears Craftsman 220V, and this one took it's place (because that one was immobile). I think the Mikita is only slightly lighter, but it is more compact so one person can lift it to take up stairs or load in the truck.

Hope it works well for you.
