Any recommendations on a certain Quick Jack for lifted tundras? I understand QJ is a brand name. Is a QJ worth the money? Just as safe? Or should regular jacks and stands suffice?

I want to start learning how to change oil, rotate tires(not much learning here), change brakes and other work.

Thoughts on a home system w/o breaking the bank?

    TIA

I have a quick jack TLX7000. I've only used it a few times but it's been great to use. The initial setup takes a bit of time but after that it's pretty simple to use. If your primary use is the Tundra I'd get the TLX7000 and the Truck Adapter Kit. If you plan to use it on another car like a sedan or crossover maybe get the TL7000 and perhaps the frame extensions for when you want to use it on the Tundra. The problem with the TLX is that it works great for long wheel base vehicles like trucks but not others. I like that it lifts the easily in no time and I don't have to do the back and then the front and worry about multiple jack stands. The lift height is also great.

That being said you absolutely don't need it. If the main goal is just oil changes and tire rotations then I'd stick with the old hydraulic jack and jack stands. If you do a lot of wrenching on your truck or have multiple cars you like to work on then I think it's worth it. Otherwise save the money and get a harbor freight 3-4 ton hydraulic jack and a set of 6-ton US Jack jack stands.

Get a harbor freight Daytona and some harbor freight 12 ton (or is it 6 ton? Whatever the physically largest are) and you'll be ready to rock for like $350.

Thanks for the opinion. I'm only looking at my tundra and my wife's SUV. I've just walked into a Harbor Freight for the first time yesterday and was blown away at how affordable tools they have. Picked up a impact driver and other things while I was there. haha.

They have a 6 ton Daytona jack stands for $80 and 12 ton jack stands for $150 set of 2 in both cases. I assume you need four.

They have both 6 ton and 12 ton jack stands. Just walked into a HF for the first time yesterday. was blown away at prices that allow me to get into DIY and not break the bank. :amen:

Be cautious with what you buy at HF. It's cheap because it's made in China. Ppl usually buy power tools there because they're in a pinch and blew their budget on materials then realized they needed a tool but for a one and done kinda thing lol if it breaks oh well. And they do break.

The jackstands had a recall but they replaced them free of charge. My 6 tons were recalled. For things like that most buy name brand stuff. I use them because I still have my jack holding up the weight as well as a tire underneath the truck so that if something does happen I have a backup.

$45 HFvs $200 Milwak is a no brainer for as impact driver, imo. Breaks, go swap it. I do like the idea of having a backup especially holding up weight of a vehicle. I think it's mostly a personal judgement call on where you spend money on tools or at least how I have looked at it. However, i do want opinions bc im a noob.

And yes, I noticed just about everything they have is made in Taiwan and/or China.

Hey I get it trust me. I buy cheap when and where I can. When I needed a grinder in a pinch I nabbed one and a pack of discs for about $20 all in. It did the job. Ppl talk smack about their Badland winches yet I've seen them pull small excavators as well as commercial fleet trucks out of the mud.

I walk into HF and I always walk out with something in hand. Air compressor chucks, hoses, gloves, dust masks etc...HF is ideal for all of that

Being my first time in a HF, literally, I was amazed and did walk about with $150 of stuff. Thankfully its not very close to my house so that will save me a little. It is crazy to look at Home Depot at Dewalt and Miwak and other brand names and what they are asking for basic tools $$$$

Thanks for the input, I always appreciate it.

Get yourself a filter wrench, and screw in wide mouth funnel for EZ DIY oil changes.

Here is one that is a little cheaper than the go to MotivX brand. You can go one step further and replace your drain plug with a Fumoto type valve that eliminates the need for a wrench and drain plug. There's also the plug type that has a screwed on cap that opens up to a nipple you can attach a drain hose onto for no mess drainage. Looks like this

Some guys replace the plastic OEM filter cap with aluminum. I haven't because I haven't had problems but others have had theirs crack or the tabs break off from over tightening then having to take off again.

Two torque wrenches, one for max 100 lb-ft and one for max 200~250 lb-ft. These two will cover the vast majority (if not all) of torque wrenching needs.

For tire rotations I use a torque stick rated for 100 ft/lbs

Like others said, time and place for HF stuff. Imo you can't go wrong and if you get stuff that breaks then upgrade to something else. With that said they do have a lot of quality stuff, like the Jack stands and floor jacks. Their compressors are also very good, and a variety of other tools. I just got a new grease gun the other day because my previous HF one died after like 5 years. For how much I use a grease gun there is no reason to spend more than $14 if it lasts 5 years.

6 tons for a truck are the smallest Jack stands I would get. I get the 12 tons since the 6 tons aren't very tall, but for a tundra either work.

I really like my Daytona hi-lift floor jack. I had the bad jack stands and didn't bother to replace them with HF versions, bought some on Amazon with safety pins and haven't looked back. As far as HF is concerned, it's hit or miss. I'm still using my $20 cut-off tool I bought 15 years ago, but I had a belt sander that lasted 6 months. It seems like some of the tools have really cheap plastic parts, and that's what tends to break.

I have been using a 3 ton harbor freight jack with 3 ton jack stands. 3 ton stands, hold 3 tons as a pair, so two 3 ton stands can hold the weight if a Tundra alone and obviously you'll be using 4 of them when doing things like rotating tires. Dont get me wrong, theres nothing wrong with over buying. I bought my 3 ton stuff when I was driving a Subaru. Just putting my experience out there. If the truck is lifted 3 tons wont give you enough height though.

So I assume 6 ton stands will provide proper lift? I only have a 3" kit.

You'll want at minimum 6 ton jack stands for the extra capacity and lift height
