    Upgraded brakes
I recently upgraded my first generation 02 tundra brake calipers to the larger second generation calipers. For the love of me I can't get the system bled properly. I have brakes and they will stop me but there's way too much travel. I took it to a local shop and they said they couldn't get any air out. They used a pressure bleeder. They tried to tell be that they are fine the way they are but I had a 03 with the second generation calipers and there's a huge difference. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think he meant the gx/4runner upgrade. Just the 13wl one.

you need a bigger brake master cylinder, cause you need more volume of brake fluid to push the bigger piston, or you have a weak booster...

All I see is "bigger caliper" and I'm basically sitting in the same boat as @Winning8 on this one.

He said he has the early 00-02 calipers, upgraded to the next generation of 03+ calipers like he had on his previous 03.

Ya, but it seems like different cab and engine size have different parts number on master cylinder, which mean Toyota may use different bore size on different model or years…anyway the symptoms of big calipers without upgrading the master cylinder is longer paddle feel.

I must be reading something weird, or maybe it's a punctuation/formatting thing. I've re-read it a couple of times and my takeaway is still that this guy has a 2002 Tundra, 1st Gen (2000-2006), and he upgraded to 2nd Gen (2007 - ????) calipers, which is the same upgrade he'd done on his '03 prior.

Even the my '06 is running WL which are larger. I can't even imagine how much bigger the '07+ calipers are. But maybe @Tolbertino has a different idea of what "generation" means.

Probably formatting and how he references the difference.

There are 2 versions of calipers the 1st gen tundra saw. I think he is referring to V1 and V2.

13we (00-02) which has a smaller brake pad and is prone to warping.
13wl (03-06) which has a larger brake pad and less likely to warp.

Same rotor, brake line connection and mounting ears on the spindle.

Watching this thread. I was planning on this upgrade as well and was under the impression it was bolt on upgrade.

-is this a case of bad bleeding procedure or is there more to it? TIA-J
