This may be a dumb question. But how do you differentiate between the JBL stereo system and non-JBL stereo? And if you have the JBL, where would the amplifier be? I have an '05 Tundra DC SR5. Thanks.

If it's jbl it should say it in small letters on the corner of your head unit, and I believe that the amp is behind it inside the dash, but I'm not really sure.

Well I feel dumb but now I see it on head unit. It may be because it's 12 years old but the sound system is awful.

I just did this very swap over the weekend. Have a right angle driver on hand. The amp is down below the AC controls and the screws are sort of tricky to get out.

Other than that it is an easy job. I got a Pioneer DEH-X3910BT and all of the parts from Crutchfield. Love the radio and it looks good with the interior of a 1st gen.

I know this is an old thread but I just removed my head unit and I see no amp. My head unit does say JBL on it on the top right. I’ve added some photos to try and clarify my confusions.

I’ll try that route otherwise I may have to order a different wiring harness. Crutchfield sent me this monster and I have no earthly idea where it hooks up at.

I believe I may have found it behind the back seat wall. More to come! Haha

Yeah that’s it plug in that harness and run it up to the dash, wire it up and your good to go.

Thanks again. I went ahead and hooked up the bypass and removed the amp altogether. What should’ve been an easy install threw me for a loop.

Thanks for the info. Getting ready to do the same install (once it warms up a tad). Question- can I use the existing amp if I have rca plugs of my After market Pioneer. Again thanks for the above thread. Saved me a little effort.

I'm in the same boat. Been working on this install for.days now. Finally ordered the bypass today.
