I've seen so many people reporting this, that I know I look like a damn fool getting out of mine now, the way I'm contorting myself to not slide across or put pressure on this...

Hopefully enough complaints get a fix from Toyota in the future, but I won't hold my breath...

I've seen a few of these reports, looks like its becoming a common occurrence. Pickup Truck Plus posted a youtube video about it and I have seen a few posts around the pages. I guess the million mile Tundra seat they supposedly studied to make these seats better wasn't very good.

Was the seat in the million mile tundra a manual adjust seat or power seat?

Wondering if that would make a difference in how the trim piece attaches

...and everything else as thin and flimsy as possible.

    Color me not surprised here.
Every damn piece of interior I took apart (a lot of it to run lights and a lot of wiring) is as thin as can be; even the damn firewall roll bar behind the dash seemed thin. All plastics mar/scratch by looking at them.
...this the way of the future, apparently.

This happens on every tundra made if you're always putting pressure there.

It’s actually happened on every Tundra since the dawn of man. My 2000 trim piece has been perpetually breaking clips. When you slide over to get out, all of your weight is transferred to the trim piece on the 2000. Guess they have yet to perfect the design.

I think it’s just that it’s not intended to really take any weight period and a lot of people unintentionally put all their weight on it getting in and/or out the truck.

That part creaks and pops in my wife's XT5 when I sit in it no matter how gently I lower into it.
It doesn't make any noise when her 5' 100# frame gets in it.

I hate driving her car anyway..:(

Perhaps hold weight with grab handle as you get out instead of rolling off the seat. A lot of trucks have this issue, with it being high and drivers putting down pressure on that part every time they get out.

I had to take my 2022 tundra in because of a crack in my drivers side seat. Please go out and check your seat to see if you have any cracks in the plastic side.

Awesome. The seats dont look too bad at all considering the miles and 22years!

My middle child is going to be driving in the next few years and a 1st gen Tundra or Tacoma may be something I look into for him.

She’s been pretty well cared for other than spending her whole life outside. Thought my son would take her over when he came of driving age but he wanted a Mustang instead. He still comes and swaps with me for the truck in The winter for the 4wd.

This is the main reason I installed a driver's grab handle. I don't want my driver's seat to look like crap because I slide off of it every time I get out.

Sucks that the plastic is so wimpy.

I Emailed Mike Sweers about it (chief engineer of the tundra platform). First was replaced under warranty but the second was not. I have to contort myself not to put pressure on it or the fragile plastic will break.

He said he’ll forward my detailed feedback to seat engineering but who knows what will come of it.

ive had my truck since April 22. Overall happy, since then I've had some issues but they have been addressed. Latest one is finding out these seat panels are not durable. tried to look online for replacement parts but came up short. didn't know this was a common thing.

is anyone here having the same issue???

Im about to bring it back to the dealership for a recall and ask the parts department for a quote.

    I didn’t check out Tim’s video so don’t know what he said/did.

However, You probably should be asking them to fix it under your warranty as it’s not a part that’s excluded (wearables) that should break/crack like that.

Let us know how it goes.

Had the same issue with mine. Not sure if it is a recall or not, however, my dealership said mine was the fourth one in the past couple of months. They replaced it free of charge; the panel only took a couple of days to arrive.

Mine busted this week. I called a dealer asking about warranty coverage for that part, they will have to get back to me about it LOL.

I may just order one and install myself.

I know a lot of people up here say, "don't slide out of it, just use the handle and pull yourself up," and "it's probably because you're too big." Both not true. I am 190 pounds, have always pulled myself out, etc. Mine is about to split as I can see it pressurized on the side. Any day now, it will bust like so many others have.
I say all this to say, Toyota simply dropped the ball in this aspect. Love pretty much everything about this truck. But this seat situation is clearly not good.
