Another taco? Can't get enough huh? I could probably find your house from a satellite map It'll be the only Toyota lot thats not a stealership. :boink:
Those are 2 completely different vehicles tho
Nothing on your truck or more valuable than lift blocks? That cancels everything on my list. haha I don’t know whatchu got. Tell you what, lets make it fun. I'll send you the blocks, and you just send me somethin that is of equal or greater value, that you think I'd be able to use or appreciate. Doesn't necessarily need to be for the truck. You know me well enough that I'll trust your judgement. Cool? If it helps in your choosing, I wont post here what you send. I'm already excited, Gotta see if I still have your address...

Maybe the mechanic is wrong, and it's a cam seal leak? My front driver side cam seal was leaking at some point. I couldn't tell how fresh or active it may've been. But after running ATP AT-205, any small leaks I had are gone, with the exception of my valve cover leaks which were 80% fixed, save for the FIPG issues from the previous person that had 'em off.

    Pics would help.

I don't think that's possible as there's no oil passages around the tensioner AFAIK. Could be leaking from that valve cover, and seeping down?

Here's some pics of crackie where the TB tensioner would go.

Good pics. This is ultimately what I was thinking - my red arrow here on general path where passenger side cam seal could potentially be leaking, sending it down the block concealed by the cam cover, then popping out near the tensioner, maybe? But the GX470 owner's mech isn't super familiar with 2UZ.

A quick removal of the passenger side cam cover should be able to confirm, I think. Below this picture, there are a few pics of what my driver's side cam seal leak looked like (before AT-205 application), it managed to leak out at the timing cover itself before making its way further down.

    upload_2022-9-16_9-39-55.jpg

My driver's side leak here, a zoomed out shot:

Close up on that, it had been going on for a while:

Another, higher diagonal angle with some labels, position of coil pack should help determine the angle I shot at:

Thanks guys. He's actually at the dealership now having them inspect it. I'll let you know what he says. I shared your posts with him. I hope for his sake it's not the cam seal as I know those suck on the VVTI 4.7L.

The dealer is saying they believe it's his cam seal. A real buzz kill with VVTI. One of the Toyota mechanics is offering to replace it at his house for half the cost though.

He was intrigued by that stop leak product you mentioned. It might be worth a try.

Have him give AT-205 product a shot, they carry at Advance Auto, 1 bottle for our 4.7L 2UZ, then drive 100-300 miles to reach full effect, and you can leave it in there after. A lot of the guys on ih8mud and other forums swear by it for all kinds of oil-based leaks: engine, rms, trans, power steering. anything that uses oils. ATP guarantees their product won't over-swell and destroy gaskets like other stop-leak products, and wont' clog anything up.

Don't get me wrong, if the price is good on the cam seal replacement from the toyo mech, I'd strongly consider. Your buddy could take a minute to refresh all the gaskets that come off in the process, like vale covers, spark plug tube, etc, and could even probably squeeze in water pump, timing belt, drive belt, tensioners, etc. while in there. It's one of those thigns where you could really refresh a lot at once, I'd do it in a heartbeat if over 150k-200k miles.

Honestly, if I ever get to doing the same, I'd love to pull my heads and run through a hot parts wash. I'm getting at the point where I'm around ~170 miles from adding Seafoam "high mile" to the crankcase. Another 50-100 miles and I'll be doing my next oil change, can't wait to see if it actually did anything to clean up varnish.

And to that point @FirstGenVol I honestly think the stealership may be thinking same thing as me. The path I drew out would be logical source. The stealership can easily confirm by pulling the passenger timing cover and looking for traces of oil, I would think. I just don't know if they'll go that far. Sometimes the service guys can be lazy af and not want to bother with trying to find their 10mm.

I want a windmill with a saddle and handlebars. Solar panel sun shade...

can prolly swing an 8'. I'm on top of a hill, could probably see 20 miles @ 20ft. But i think i wanna be 50 ft.
    https://donswindmills.com/aermotor-windmills

Theres a wacky formula for roof area vs a 100 year storm, and a 20x20 steel bolted/welded carport needs about 12k lbs of anchor. What happens when you triple the height over the 20ft trees? Pole & cable anchors vs tower? I think the 100 year speedlimit of out area is 70mph. I've seen 60mph gusts.

It sounds like that Toyota mechanic is going to replace both the cam seal and valve cover gaskets for around $700. Seems like a really fair price based on what I've heard about the cam seal.

The “how long will the timing belt last?” Question might have been answered. Delivered to a house today, cust had a rusted out but on road 1st gen, 2000. We talked a bit about it.
he bought with 15k miles on it in 2001. He JUST changed the timing belt for the 1st time at 280k. Mechanic showed him and he may have had days before she blew out
    280k miles, 22 years :eek2:

The new Tundra has not one, but 3 timing chains. I wonder if you can go a million miles without changing them. ;)
