I just purchased a high mileage 2014 tundra with a 5.7 engine. I am switching the oil to amsoil ss from here on out. I ordered 6 oem oil filters without thinking about an amsoil filter.. can I run oem filters with amsoil signature series or should I buy different oil filters?

Of course you can use OEM filters (or any other filter) with that (or any other) oil.

I wouldn’t mix and match oil filter with oil, but I’ll pay for the shipping and take those factory oil filter off your hands…lol

I will be running either a 1 year/10,000 interval or if for some reason I start getting past 10,000 in a year I’ll go every 6 months.

Excuse me, I mean 6months/5k miles. I like to do it in the spring and in the fall. Will an oem filter be fine for 6months/5k on amsoil?

Without a doubt. I've been doing 10k OCIs and change my filter every 10k as well. I also cut open open my filter after the oil has drained from it for a week or so and see if there is an carbonaceous build up, or anything unusual. Nothing so far.

What brands of filters would be synthetic media?

I have been using the OEM filters, but now am thinking of changing.

    Pretty things
No expert here, but if these synthetic filters are able to "filter MUCH better", would it not stand to reason the synthetic filter has to be changed MORE often?

If it is collecting more, smaller particles, won't it clog up more quickly, necessitating more frequent replacements inorder to maintain oil pressure and flow?

An extra oil change (and filter) over the year is not going to break my body or the bank.

I personally plan to keep it simple. Use quality oil and change it and the OE filter at 5k miles. Also reminds me to rotate my tires.

    Welcome!
I have been running Amsoil SS & OEM filters for years. I live in extremely high air particulate Az and do 3.5-5k changes and get great reports from Blackstone.

    Not sure I buy it.

If simply comparing filter to filter, we must also assume the engine will produce(?) The same amount of contaminants. Keeping everything else consistent, I still maintain the filter rated to remove smaller particles will clog up more quickly.

If I were using said filter, I would be inclined to replace it more frequently. Which is why I will continue not to use them.

I'm not advocating for them but here is what Amsoil says:

    https://www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-oil-filter-eaoilfilt/?code=EA15K04-EA

AMSOIL Oil Filters feature advanced full-synthetic media that traps and holds a greater amount of small, wear-causing contaminants compared to conventional and other high-efficiency filters.

See the Product Data Bulletin for full details.

    Advanced, Full-Synthetic Media
    • Provides filtering efficiency of 99 percent at 20 microns1
    • Allows lower restriction, keeping engine parts lubricated
    • Provides greater capacity for small, wear-causing contaminants than competing filters
    • Helps reduce engine wear
    1In accordance with industry-standard ISO SO 4548-12.

    99% Efficiency at 20 MicronsAA
Filtering particles >20 microns fights engine wear.

I might try one, I'm willing to give Amsoil the benefit of the doubt.

Synthetic filters on these trucks are a waste of money. My truck has 247k on 10k OCIs with regular OEM filters from the dealership. I do regular UOAs as well, so if my OEM filter wasn't filtering correctly, it would show that in either wear or particle count. These engines are extremely reliable and easy on oil, a synthetic filter isn't going to provide any negligible amount of engine life by filtering a few microns better compared to an OEM filter

This is the only point I was attempting to make, since you had mentioned feeling comfortable with longer filter change intervals.

I will obviously continue to do what I am comfortable with (quality synthetic oil with OE filter @5k miles), regardless of your sarcasm.

Not looking to trash your filter, just passing on what is logical in my mind regarding finer filter media.
