I understand your point on not purchasing on credit, however, to each his/her own.
    However...
If I bought for actual needs and not "wants" my truck would look like the south bound end of a north bound horse. Besides, what fun would it be?

btw - the grass skirt hula girl on the dash has a lot of functionality. haha

    Just my opinion.

Yeah, I buy alot of mdse online. Of course I have to use a credit card, but I am not using credit as we pay off our bill in full every month. With my USAA credit card, we get a
    3% savings to boot.

I am not using credit to buy a thing. I am using the credit card to facilitate the purchase. When I said don't use credit, I am talking about not having the money in your savings and using a credit to borrow funds to pay for an item you cannot buy outright because you do not have the current funds.

When I was young, I bought alot on credit for things I really did not need. I pissed alot of money away on things I did not need and made the money lenders more wealthy and me poorer in the interest payments.

Now I am older and wiser and debt free.

Of course I own a house. I have owned several. And yes I have carried mortgages in the past. I was talking about buying shit on credit that is not absolutely necessary.

This thread started by a young guy who said he was stressing his wife out through buying shit for his truck. Reading through the threads, half of you cats are cheering him on. Apparently he does not have financial cushion to buy this crap or his wife would not be giving him the stink eye for ordering this crap.

I was trying to give him some advice on maybe not stressing his old lady out. And maybe building up some wealth to where he could be in a position to buy this crap without feeling guilty and his wife would not care about.

You know that guy Dave Ramsey, he may sound like a pompous asshole to some, but his advice is right. People would have a happier life and rest easier if they listened to his advice.

If you are referring to me as the "young guy" who is stressing out about my wife, my wife isn't THAT stressed out. I guess age is just a number, I wish mine was low. haha. This thread was intended to be light hearted and fun bc some of us have wives that give us a hard time about buying what you call "shit" Its all in what I call FUN! Try it sometime. :amen:

Life is SOOOO much less stressful when you have no debt, or the only debt you have is your mortgage payment, which is at a level where it is easy to make every month without sacrificing your quality of life. Delayed gratification is key.

I don't disagree with avoiding debt as much as possible. I just think those decisions are up to the individual.

I just received a report last week that my credit score had gone down because I no longer had a mortgage on my credit report.
Paying off my house has actually dropped my credit score.
    What a scam they’re running.

And some folks in the credit world will actually tell you to open a credit card to help build up your credit score. Then they ding your credit when you miss a payment etc. Wild.

And before any Dave Ramsey affiliates mention "thats why you have to pay it off in time", well duh. But it is strange they tell you to open up a credit card.

I think you're taking this too seriously. We joke a lot here about how much we spend on mods and how much our wives roll their eyes about it. Better get used to it.

Absolutely! There are some ways where this is still a free country. But with freedom comes responsibility, and I wish I could have learned that without going through the stress of the consequences of not being responsible! Specifically in this case, a bunch of interest payments that made what I bought back then end up costing SO much more. Now I reap the credit card rewards without paying the interest, as it sounds like you do.

Amazing isn't it? Unfortunate too. Creditors/Banks don't want us to be debt free it doesn't seem anyway. Wonder why?:monocle:

But back to the wife thing, I cancelled our anniversary next year to be able to purchase a new stereo for the T, and I took out a credit card to pay for it at only 28% interest. :muscleflexing: #winning

I took my wife to the dealer so we could test drive. Told her I was thinking about the black on black Platinum they have coming. She pushed me toward the 1794 MGM with tan leather just because of the color. Good idea sweetie, MGM it is. I won't say which was my first choice :)

We lived debt free except the mortgage for numerous years then buckled down and paid off the mortgage too. It is definitely a freeing thing. Just getting ready to retire and buy my Tundra. Will pay cash for that too. an 800+ credit score is fine but I don't need it. My aim is to get my credit score to what is called indeterminate. Where I basically don't have one.

Debit cards are not backed or insured for fraudulent charges.
Use a credit card, get points and pay it off.

Don't mean to be argumentative but this is not true. Your bank will refund fraudulent charges. On top of that research shows that people who use credit cards spend about 18% more than those who use cash or debit. I never heard anyone say they accumulated wealth by using credit card points.
