Anyone ever see this happen and any fixes?? I didn’t take mud guard off to see how bad it is yet.

That looks like it is rusting from the inside out. Unfortunately it is probably worse under the fender flare.

The fact it’s bubbling up like that is bad. It’s already rusted underneath the paint and needs to be fixed. It’ll just get worse over time if you ignore it.

Yeah, they did a good job preventing the wheel wells from rusting out unlike other trucks made in the same time frame. Mine are still in great condition and my truck has been through 20 New England winters sitting outside all its life.

Yep. They must have figured it out after the pre tacomas always rusted out above the rear wheel well….my bro and I had an 88 and 86 respectively and rear wheel wells were shot out….my 87 four runner I don’t remember having it….my 94 pre Tacoma didn’t have it …so they got a good hold on it. I still see newer dodges with the issue. Ugh

    4 options.

    Leave it alone.
Cut it out and repair it with a patch panel.
    Find a good used bed.
    Buy a flatbed.
