Guy was driving towards me lastnight with wide ass tires about 12” out past his fenders and threw a rock at my windshield and cracked it.. tracked him down. Seems like a complete dick about it, driving his $90000 truck and gonna cost $1600 to fix my windshield.. doesn’t want to do nothing about it

As far as I understand, he has zero liability for your windshield. So I'm not surprised he didn't want to be cornered into feeling "responsible" for your windshield after you tracked him down.

“Tracking” someone down is probably better left to LEOs.

Well here he is illegal on the road to have tire stick past your fender… this “poke” is at his liability for these reasons..

Did you call the police while you had him stopped? Are you a LEO?

LEO is "Law Enforcement Officer", leave the law enforcing to them. Never know who you are "tracking" down these days. Go buy yourself a new windshield and move on.

This is why you have auto insurance.
Get the police involved if you feel a law was broken.
But you're going to have a hard time proving his vehicle did the damage to yours.

If you came up on me all strong and pissed off, I'd likely tell you to fu(k off..

Just report him to your insurance claim. Let them argue about whose fault it was. No sense in getting into a physical confrontation about it

I totally understand your frustration, but I don't think he has direct liability on this incident, maybe just let your insurance company know about his truck and see if they want to deal with trying to get the money from him, hoping you have full glass coverage too!

However, the main reason I'm here is to comment that his parking abilities seem to line up nicely.

Insurance is for accidents. This wasn’t an accident, and was avoidable on his part, and put it thru insurance so they can up my premiums for next 5 years, no thanks. He’ll pay.

I doubt he will end up paying for it.
Did you get the DNA off the rock with his tire rubber on it?
Hopefully, forensics can put the blame on him..

Seems you have law enforcement connections.
Did you flash your badge when you "tracked him down"?

Decent insurance policies don't go up with 1 claim.

    Good luck..

Bahaha flash my badge… only morons do that..

I was mechanic for years before this career. DOT requires tires not to exceed fender/flare

I'd suggest serving the warrant when he least expects it in the dead of night..

Hopefully, the crack won't expand while you're chasing this fugitive down.

No i didnt actually, he watched me pull right over as it hit and he bolted... I was still in uniform so wasn't pulling that card. just found out who he was thru couple buddies of his and got his number tried calling no answer so sent him a text. Try to do the right thing first.... I deal with Dick heads all day, I don't intend to be one.

If the wind whipped my door open and wacked my door into yours while parked next to it, I'm sure youd expect me to pay for repairs... same deal

There is no liability for rock chips. The only time you can get compensation is if something on their truck was negligently stored and came flying out or undone and hit your vehicle. I had a dumbass on their phone wander into the shouilder and kick up a rock and chip my CRV. Just is what it is.

Most accidents are 100% avoidable hence why they are called accidents. I was not there so I likely missed the part where he saw the rock in the road, and directed his vehicle toward that rock, while simultaneously calculating the exact speed, the rotational force of his tires, the angle of departure of said rock off his tires, the relative humidity at the time, current wind velocity and heading and your exact speed among many other variables so that he could insure the rock would hit YOUR windshield only and not the vehicle in front of or behind you. While his truck may look like crap and have way too must offset this guy is the type of genius that could put the collective IQ of NASA to shame, he should probably be in charge of the journey to Mars. I get it shit sucks I would be mad as well, however, much like Elsa you should probably let it go. Life is too short to get spun up on this shit.

Simple answer.. fender flares required by law to cover tread of tire... RCMP are following up.
$1600 in my pocket is better to me..

All he has to do is put a "Not responsible for broken windshields" sticker on his truck, and he will be absolved of all liability lol.

Lol not quite in Canada.. his truck is far from road legal. So I can become a pain in the ass for him.. in New Brunswick running so much as a 1 size up tire is illegal and subject to fine and being towed

He is liable however if you don't have proof (video or a witness) you are going to have a heck of a time getting any reimbursement from his insurance carrier. As others have stated, turn it into your insurance along with his info and let them figure out the rest.

I see you have only narcissistic points of view... look down on people and find something wrong with them, good for you. But god forbid if someone damages your vehicle. I'm sure you'll be the biggest dick they ever met. Not 100% sure what grows in Texas but up here money doesn't grow on trees, and what does get paid to me, the government take 46% of my check in deductions and then we pay 15% tax on everything else we buy. so basically I only get a useable 39-41% usable portion of my paycheck. So yeah if I can save Myself some $ I will.

And Some how you seem think that my job has anything to do with it, when I purposely avoided following him home or somewheres till he stopped, as I was in uniform. I'm not entitled.. I just dont want to frivously pay for something I didn't cause and was avoidable with a little though and common sense and hopefully stop others from dealing with the same issue.

Likely have some negative comment of me being a Volunteer Firefighter for the last 16 years as well..

God damn you 2022 owners are wound up tight..:eek2:

    WTF is narcissistic about me?
There is nothing special about me.
I'm actually a really nice guy, I'm sorry you have no sense of humor..

If my windshield gets broken, I get it fixed.
I'm not going to hunt people down and harass them.
We carry guns down here in the land of the free...

And it certainly isn't my fault you live in Canada with your taxes and such.
Is living there a choice or are you just a glutton for punishment?
"In this world, nothing is certain except death and taxes.”

Come to America, hell, come to Texas I'll buy the first round.
You're the one with the 'I'm gonna make that mother f**er pay and make his life miserable for having wide offset wheels'.
Rocks hit windshields, it happens every day, everywhere.

In the last 7 years of owning my 2014:

I had $1800 worth of damage from a grocery store cart that someone didn't put away that the wind blew into my truck.
The grocery store wasn't responsible for some lazy ass that didn't put up their cart.
    Cost me $200, my deductible.

I just had a $6000 (+ $1200 for 1 month of rental) claim for stolen catalytic converters.
Went without my Tundra for 8 months.
Thank God Toyota supplied the rental for the other 7 months at a cost to them over $8000.
    Cost me $200, my deductible.

I've paid over $1500 out of pocket to get door dents repaired over the years just for my 2014.
So what, I wanted them fixed.
    It's called life Chief..

Actually, you being a dick has nothing to do with you being law enforcement.
It's just that you keep tossing that out there.
I wonder how you found out who the perp is and what his phone number was.....
Maybe that is public knowledge up there, maybe you had his plates run for personal reasons.
Oh wait, I don't care, yes, that's it...

Thanks for your service, as well as your VFD service.
Did you throw that out there to pat yourself on the back?
    Atta boy, good boy...

Too bad there is no capital punishment in Canada.
I think ole wide wheels might deserve it.
That pebble tossing incident should be a capital offense.
I'd bet RCMP has him #1 on the 10 most wanted list..

Be safe, lighten up, and enjoy your weekend.

I do have a great sense of humor.. but sarcasm it’s poorly translated thru text..

All the theft on your truck, can’t you just shoot them down there? Fed’s are completely disarming us. Banned all my hunting rifles because they are magnums and can hold 3 rounds, banned my shot guns because when you take the choke out the thread size is too big for regulation.. even banned the ruger 10-22 ffs

    1. No, they didn't unless your hunting rifle produces more than 10,000 Joules of energy at the muzzle. My 7mm Remington Magnum puts out around 3000 Joules and holds 3 rounds. It's not banned. A .300 Winchester Magnum has about 4000 Joules at the muzzle. I can say with 99% certainty that your hunting rifle is not banned due to being a magnum and holding 3 rounds.

    2. Kinda sorta, not really though. This was unofficially cleared up, though it has yet to be challenged in court. It also only affects 1 or 2 particular models of shotguns.

    3. No, they didn't. They banned the 25 round magazines, now requiring them to be pinned to 5 rounds due to the Ruger 10/22 Charger "pistol" sharing the same magazines.

I think our government is bullshit too but let's at least get our facts right when we bitch about them, ok?

sure! Haven’t gone back to see what has changed since it originally got released it think there was 15000 models involved.. if I recall Correctly.

I could care less if every firearm was Registered in this country, but let me own and use it responsibly, like I have proved to do my whole life and taken courses and have to prove over and over I’m not a criminal..

I mean you're not close behind. Just make a claim with your insurance and move on.

Should've bought used instead of new.

Carry on and enjoy your weekend.
