I'm shifting gears on my truck / camper build and ultimately want to be able to secure some things (screw them down) in the bed. I don't really want to screw into the sheet metal, which I imagine wouldn't be that strong anyway, so I am thinking about cutting out a couple of pieces of plywood to fit the bottom.

Maybe this is basic, but - what's the best way to secure that? as I recall, there are 6 bolts in the bed. Can I just use those? I'd guess I'd have to get some longer bolts to account for the thickness of the plywood. I think too, that when I had the bedliner put in the sprayed over the bolts. Is there an issue with removing them with the adjacent liner?

I'll have a topper, so I am really worried about moisture and the plywood.

    Too many, but not enough....
If you wanted something temporary you could get one of those extender bars that clamp across the bed, just put it down low across the plywood.

Longer bed bolts would be the best though you would have to probably look for other brand truck parts. Probably for or GM has them for their big boys.

Using the bed bolts will be your most durable way, but if you give us an idea of the trucks use and what you want to screw down we might be able to come up with a less involved mounting idea.

    To much to list:)
You are asking for all sorts of moisture build up under the wood. This WILL Lead to rust and that leads to all sorts of other problems. All sorts of stuff will find its way under that!

@GODZILLA - I need to secure a kitchen drawer system. When each of the drawers pulled out, it’ll be a little heavy out past the tail gate.

Ah, I see. Definitely something you want secure.

    Questions:
    1. How often do you need to remove the draws for full bed access?
    2. Will the drawers be across the whole bed (think like DECKED) or will they only be to one side?
    3. Have you thought about mounting them to a platform built over the wheel wells, or securing them with straps?

Just one side. Low need to remove them, but not zero. Straps would be ideal, actually, but not sure what I’d strap to, I guess.

over the wheel well would make it too high.
Thanks @GODZILLA for the quick reply

I wouldn’t use the bed mounting bolts by sandwiching a plywood “washer” into the mix. FYI - Toyota lists the bed mounting bolts as one time use only also:notsure:. Be fine to bolt through the bed floor, can add reinforcement plates if needed. My spare tire anchors have plates under them, very strong and secure.

How rough is the stuff you drive on? Are you crawling a bunch at angles, bouncing and jostling around, or do you primarily stick to milder road type obstacles like potholes and washboards?

@PapaDave418 has built a kitchen setup that slides out like drawers, so perhaps he can provide some insight for mounting such a thing securely.

Shitty roads, but I’m not crawling.

maybe just drilling through and bolting down (with a plate) is the easy answer. Thanks all.

We use large flange rivnuts, they grip really well but you drill through the bed. Or use the bed bolts and aluminum extrusions will help with rust.

Our units mount to 6 rivnuts and no one has had any issues. I used them for my PullKitchen and for my DIY half bed slide. It can hold 300lbs fully extended. BA5E6C69-F7A6-42F1-8164-476521D2EF44.jpgEC3DDCA4-D3A9-4781-9669-B091812F9EAE.jpg

@PapaDave418 that makes sense. Love the pull kitchen. I’m basically doing the same (different brand kitchen, but same idea). Hadn’t thought about a rivnut but that makes sense. Thanks!
