I haven't received decent dealer service in many years now. Toyota, Ford, Jeep, I have had bed experiences with all of them. I know, what else is new right?

My latest dealer service biting me in the butt is from Jeep. I went to change the oil on my wife's Wrangler last weekend and the oil grain plug was frozen. The last place I had it serviced was the Jeep dealer because it was under warranty. It is like they put it back on with a 6 ft breaker bar or an impact wrench. I ended up stripping the bolt trying to get it loose. I finally ended up using a 12mm bolt removal socket to get it loose. I would have taken it back to the dealer for them to deal with but they are 50 miles away and they wanted to keep it overnight. The last oil change I had with them took them three hours with an appointment.

The Toyota dealer left the transmission fill plug out last time I was there, Ford took 8 hours to try and find a broken wire to the wipers (I traced it down in an hour after I looked at it). Hell, it used to be that I expect things to be done on time and for a decent price. Now I just hope that they are even get done and done right.

    Rant over for today LOL

Yes - overall service sucks across the board.

Employees of dealerships are making less, doing more and in general getting cheated as dealers recognize that a certain % of customer will come in no matter how bad the service and a certain % will never come in how great and cheap service is.

More cost effective to pay less and live off that % who will always pay marked up labor. Recall work pays little - so no incentive to ensure your doing it right. At one time the almighty survey was what kept service “honest” and dealer service in fear of a customer having a bad experience. After about a decade - the number of “Karen’s” complaining about everything has led to less importance being placed on survey and CSI results. Now it’s more about making money than ever before - less about making customers happy.

I've been getting bad service at dealerships for 10 years and, fingers crossed, am still getting good service at the Toyota dealer I use now.

Service advisers will try to BS you thinking you do not know anything or they themselves know nothing about vehicles or their brand product. I no longer go to dealerships unless I absolutely have to. When I do go I usually print out notes and an explanation for the mechanic and leave it on the dash or I ask to speak with the mechanic themselves. Usually my issues are minor though and they assign the lowest / least experienced mechanic they have. If it something serious then I would request their senior tech. The last time I went in for an issue it was a 4 week wait for an appointment.

Dealership service is trash tier. I had them do an oil change in my wife’s Sienna because I had just had surgery and couldn’t do it. They had the oil filter housing torqued to almost 100ft/lbs. They also overfilled the oil. Never again.

It's societal, not just dealerships. Less and less people take pride in their trade anymore. More and more expect increased compensation for less quality/output. You're best off to learn how to fix everything for yourself. Sucks if you're in a position in which you can't do it yourself, because your options are pretty much to spin the service roulette wheel and hope you get lucky, or scrap everything and buy a new replacement (which is no guarantee to be better either).

You nailed it. I can't find anyone willing to take my money to do work on my house or to take insurance money to fix my trailer. Been trying to get a warranty repair on my canopy for over 2 years. Customer service is dead.

Very true. I've been trying to get some carpeting work done at my home since March.
