    2012 Tundra 5.7....
So the other day I had to floor it to get out in front of traffic... when I did.. the ac quit working, no dash lights or performance issues and the amp'd stereo continued to play loud but the ac light was blinking..

So I turned the AC off and back on.. and it started to work again. Worked for about 5 to 10 minutes but seemed to cut out when I gave it a lot of gas.. mind you, no warning dash lights were on and everything was light up correctly. Amp meter showed charging and never moved from a charging status...

So then I noticed every time I pressed the breaks, ONLY the dash clock would dim and although the cruise dash light was turn green, it wouldn't set or accel using the knob..... mind you, still no dash lights, stereo still wide open, headlights and dash lights all bright.. did not dim at all....zero performance issues

Then I parked for dinner... came back out and the traction control and abs warning lights were on, but everything worked fine... AC worked, cruise worked.. get going down the road, night time, lights.. AC then starts to blink again and not cool.. same thing.. no cruise, ac if you turned it off and back on would work for 5 to 10 minutes then off again...

Stopped by pub... disconnected the battery.. and had a couple beers... come back out, put the battery back on.. traction and abs still on... but the AC worked all the way home and so did the cruise....

Over night, come back out, didn't disconnect anything just parked and came inside.. started right up, no dash lights, and everything has worked just fine now for a couple days....

Yesterday, everything was working just fine... no issues with the AC or ABS or Traction lights... but the horn wouldn't work.... so then I get down the road a few miles.. and the horn started to work again.. but no other issues.... about 20 miles, i try the horn again, no horn..... another 10 miles.. horn works again....
checked all the fuses.. nothing is blown.. and is completely random... and you can not force or replicate it.. very random....

so ... what do you think....... I thought alternator at first, but no dash and the amp charge gauge shows it charging just fine ... during all of it.....
    lol..
Absolutely zero starting or shifting issues. Zero performance issues and check engine light works but has never come on during the event.
I think God is telling me its time to buy a new truck....

Your symptoms sound similar to those who have had chewed up wires caused by a rat. My neighbor has a Tundra that he parks outside and had these same sort of issues and ultimately, he had to have a new wiring harness installed because a rat chewed through the original one. I park my Tundra outside and I just noticed this past week that my windshield washer fluid wasn't dispensing on my window but rather pouring out the bottom of the truck. Upon further inspection, I realized a rat chewed right through the washer fluid hose. I lucked out ...that's a cheap fix. The wiring harness is likely a few thousand to install. I believe Toyota used a soybean-based material as the wire sheathing and there was a class action lawsuit against them for that because it was believed to be a culprit in excessive cases of rats chewing the wiring.
Btw, if that is your problem, I placed a cheesecloth bag filled with mothballs on top of my engine after I saw the washer fluid hose chewed through. Rats hate the smell so it keeps them away. I did this on my other truck that also had signs of rat occupancy and they hit the road after I started doing that. You just need to remember to remove it before you drive way :)

Wow..... that is a good one! So i work from home and my truck sits in the yard for 5 or 6 days a week not moving at all.... so that is soooo plausible! I will start to inspect... cause I know they get in my boat and barn... so that would so explain it... thank you!!

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! And I hope that helps you find the source of your issues - and that the damage is not so bad you have to replace a harness!

Peppermint oil mixed with water and sprayed in the engine compartment supposedly works for mice and rats too.

That would definitely smell way better than moth balls!

When we moved into our current house, the previous owners had left a bag of mothballs in a cabinet in the garage. One time when a friend was over I took the bag and hid it behind the back seat of their truck. A few months later the truck was for sale, and another friend was taking photos for the ad and got in the truck and was like "why does it smell like mothballs in here" and the guy was like "it just started smelling that way a couple months ago". Last I knew the bag of mothballs were still chilling in the back seat :D

I have nothing of use to add to the thread, but that story deserved to be shared. Good luck OP.

Supposedly snakes do no tlike mothballs either and it will keep them away. I put a whole box of them in my backyard and I haven't seen one rattlesnake so that is proof they must work
