If there are no leaks, why does it need a recharge?

No cold air at all? Have you had a dye test done? Compressor going out? Or other parts going out... I've tried A/C PRO from any auto store on my T100 it did make a bit of a difference

My AC went out at 190,000. I went to the dealer and they said that I needed a new compressor as they did not find any leaks. 1,100 bucks ?

I took it to Pep Boys since my nephew works there, he checked everything, tested the system with dye and found no leaks. Said compressor was working properly. He recharged the system and it has been working properly ever since. Paid 79.00 dollars. I wonder why the hell the dealer wanted me to pay for a new AC System ? Jeez !!!

my point being, if it is not as cold as it should be, and it needs a recharge, the freon doesn't wear out - it must be going somewhere?

System was recharged with added Freon. Going on 10 years with the truck, I can't complain. Freon is under pressure. Every now and then, FREO will escape little by little through connections, valves, etc., when the truck is in motion. Eventually it will get to the point that it wont be as cold as before. That's the ONLY explanation I can have after 9 years of continuous use, in the Texas heat.

I've found that over the years some cars do leak it out and it's not enough for the dye to catch it those little O rings get brittle ove the years. I've had really good luck w A/C pro in a can recharger just get the one with seal conditioner it re-swells the rings for 45-50 bucks you will be good To go

if its low on refrigerant then there is definitely a leak, refrigerant doesn't get old or used up. you would need gauges to figure out if its low or not. if you just add a can of refrigerant you could overcharge the system which would cause it not to cool properly also. Toyota a/c compressor clutch relays go bad quite often something to look at.

Where are you? If you're near me in NC, I have guages... If you're not low, charging it will do more harm than good.

For low use, that's some sets on Amazon for $35 or so...

I've never used them, I've no idea what they're like but for simple hooking up to read pressure, I would think they should be ok.

Or search local Craigslist for a set of yellow jacket guages... Just make sure they're for r-134a...

Lift kit, off road suspension, wheel well flare-outs,
Mine was doing the same thing, yet it was $19.99 for a new cabin air filter. Sometimes it is simpler that you think.

I recharged my old Chevy from a can I got at Walmart, got me cold air again and the AC was still blowing cold three years later when I sold it.

    Too many, but not enough....
Might be worth checking the relay for the system. My old ranger would take FOREVER to get cold all of a sudden so I thought the freon was low, the compressor was bad and all that, turned out to be a relay, 12 bucks and it was blowing ice cubes again.

*there is an acceptable rate of loss for refrigerant over the years. Now we're talking a long time and small amounts but
Nice. Now that was one slow leak!
