So the bushing on my Gen 2 driveshaft carrier bearing is starting to split. Some history behind it, the lift on my truck (and possibly some sag from a worn transmission mount that was already replaced) affected the driveshaft angle and put stress on the bearing, which resulted in some vibration upon acceleration. That has been corrected with spacers and the truck is driving fine now, and no vibration, so the stress on the bearing should be relieved now.

I'm getting the carrier bearing rebuilt in a few weeks, but I have a trip coming up before then. It's roughly 650-700 miles round trip, and will be mostly street/freeway. The bushing is still in good shape despite the split, not brittle or cracking or anything, and the bearing itself appears ok, no noise or whining. My mechanic says it's drivable, but obviously couldn't guarantee a long trip. So just wanted to ask here, any thoughts on making the drive with the bushing like this?

Here's a pic, it's just that one section to the rear of the bearing.

Mine looked far worse than that and had a lot of free play before I noticed doing a service. Don’t by a Toyota replacement. Spicer sells the identical unit even with a Toyota logo for less money. I can’t recall the P/N but I’ve seen it posted on this forum

Thanks. I didn't think it looked that bad. I'm planning to take it on the trip.

I definitely won't wait that long. I have an appt to get it serviced a couple of weeks after I get back.

    Appreciate the input!
