We bought my wife's 4runner new in 2016.
She has about 65k miles on it now and hasn't had a single issue with it.
Put it's first set of tires on a few months ago... along with its first set of brakes.
I've been taking care of all the routine maintenance (filters and fluids) and the thing just runs fantastic.
We could buy her another new one... (and eventually will) but she loves the thing so much she isn't really in any hurry to do it.20200818_080520_resized.jpg

The 4runner is a GREAT vehicle......I had an sr5 with a third row. However, unless you're a toddler or a contortionist the third row is relatively unusable in my opinion. It also severely cuts down on the cargo space. If third row is a must, I would look elsewhere for something a little bigger. All that said, I would not hesitate to buy another 4runner as a family vehicle. Wife and I took two week long trips with both kids and two dogs and were comfortable doing so.

Don't do it ....They fool you with the loads of options for cheap.. Cheap is exactly what you get. Unless they seriously improved (ours was a 14 limited) or maybe we just got a lemon when we had ours .Nickel and dimed us to death, an had some major failures (search AWD coupler failures) under 60k.. Random check engine / electronic failure lights an warning coming on an off all the time. Brake system issues. Couldn't get ride of it fast enough..

Agreed; resale value alone would prevent me from getting a Kia. I had the 4runner for over 5 years and over 100k miles.....paid a little over 34k for it. Got totaled when a guy ran a red light and hit me going 60mph two days after paying it off. Insurance pay out was $27.5k. You won’t get close to that with a Kia, Hyundai, etc. That is always something that brings me back to Toyota every time

It's true. I have seen several accounts of people swap across 2 or 3 lanes and run right into the back of a stopped car. I've had women screaming at me for doing 5 over in a 35 zone and traffic stacked up in front of me. It's like they don't know they are only alive because I allowed it. :ballchain:

Nice rides. Couldn't imagine having to keep 2 black vehicles clean looking. I sold my Miata because it was black. :anonymous:

You know, when it comes to buying used, the GX is priced fairly competitive with a 4Runner of the same year and mileage.

If I were after a 3rd row SUV/Crossover I would have to give the Kia Telluride a long hard look. The only complaints I've seen are about it not being really quick, but I don't care about that in a family wagon. I think it looks good, and all the reviews have touted it's 3rd row as the best they've seen. My only reason for trepidation is that it is the first model year, but the long warranty helps with that.

I have a few friends with the Tellurides as they fell for the commercials showing them as off-road worthy. They are not anymore capable than a Subaru Outback in reality although Subaru does have the better traction system when it comes to crawling speed. They are not in 4Runner territory for sure.

Not at all. You can definitely tell they went for comfort over capability. I'm thinking around town, grocery getter, family wagon that can take on gravel roads and minor pot holes. The Telluride doesn't have the ground clearance for much more than that, and it's too under-powered to be putting on bigger tires. I think with the captain's chairs for the second row it'd be a great road trip rig.

To be fair, no SUV is really in 4Runner territory besides the Lexus versions of the 4Runner. They have terrible 3rd rows, though.

Agreed on all points. My GX third row is best when they are down out of sight.

Well just going to finish off an old thread that I started. Bought her a Subaru Forester yesterday. 2020 this thing has just about everything. It is what she wanted.

Most Porsches are bulletproof...unlike BMW and Mercedes. I had a C4S that was gorgeous....it did have the rear main seal issue but nothing else

I kind of did the same thing.

Traded in her 4Runner, and gave her my Tundra.

And got me a rig to drive when not driving my work truck.

I gave the wife a 2019 Land Cruiser brand new , i bought the base when I was waiting for my 2020 Heritage 2020 to come in so I drove it and put 1200 miles on it then my LC200 came in .
She put 500 miles on it in 2 years … I just sold hers few months ago , she like driving the BMW and Highlander over the LC200 … Go figure , she called it the beast .

My wife's Forester has way more bells and whistles than my Tundra. More comfortable also. I would not by that car for myself but would like the options that she has in my truck. Now if was a Land Cruiser I would be jealous.

    Pretty things
Damn near all the OLD Germans were bulletproof...

Then the tech revolution happened and basically turned all consumer autos into iphones, where the new measure of quality is number of cameras and size of the touch screen.

And why do females always wanna choose Subaru? Is it the "love"? Yet another undeniable trademark of quality!

...apparently it's time for me to get the old bimmer up into the mountains for a little therapy.

Well about a month ago my son wreaked out his hand me down. 2010 Ford Focus. Now I am not saying it stirred up emotions. But for him good gas milage, reliable and paid off. I know just about every one knows the market right now, so been doing the Craigslist search. My son is 17 so really the vehicle he needs is to get to school and work afterwards. We are going to look at a couple of vehicles in the Vancouver area tomorrow.

    Search:
    4 cylinders
    FWD, AWD, 4WD
Does not have to be pretty
Does not have to be dirt cheap, but cheap, he is not driving cross country.

Anyone in the Portland, Vancouver area need to get that vehicle out of the front yard shoot me a PM. We live in St. Helen's about an hour outside of Portland. We will travel to check out vehicles.

So if for the wife I would say may different opinions depending on the utility. All Toyota/Lexus for me

You want a very reliable and (that goes for all) -

    - cheap on gas get - Toyota Prius
    - small cheap in gas SUV - Rav4
    - bigger v6 used for some towing - 4runner
    - bigger v8 and lots of towing - Sequoia / GX
    - mid size truck - Tacoma
    - full size truck - Tundra
    - nothing but the best - Land Cruiser / LX
    - off roading - Land Cruiser / LX / GX / Sequoia

On a side note. I would never ever get Kia/Hyundai those imho are just plane junk.

Well this is what we got:
2008 Scion Xd 5 speed manual
    153,000 miles 3375.00
Bought it Saturday trained him on Sunday.

He may not be a total pro but he drove me around for about 3.5 hours. He also made it work and back. Proud of him. Good skill to learn at 17.
