2022 Tundra development

Amendment to my plan for the 4x4 trucks, I am going to use a low profile lock nut and a 1/4” shorter bolt at that corner to give it more clearance

 

Will the cat plate fit with a TRD skid plate? Same question for the tow hook plate?

Also, new to owning a truck and cat theft issue. is weight and strength the main difference between the aluminium and steel plates?

This will fit with the TRD plate, I am going to be installing one on the truck that got the prototype to be sure soon

the tow hooks solution will not get in the way the of the pro plate, this is on hold looking for someone local willing to have me take apart the front of their truck

 

Hi. Have you confirmed your 2022 Tundra cat plate will fit with the TRD plate?

Also, will the same plate be used for the 2022 Tundra Double Cab gas, CrewMax gas and CrewMax hybrid 4X4 models?

 

Hi. I've got a 2022 Tundra Platinum on order in Canada. Well actually I have two on order. One Platinum gas engine no AVS or air bags and one Platinum ordered a month later when I could get the hybrid and the AVS and load leveling air bags. I plan to keep the hybrid version.

I don't imagine the AVS or rear air bags will have any impact but for the cat plate do you know if there is any difference for fit on a hybrid vs regular gas engine?

 

Looking at more pictures and videos online clearly the hybrid transmission is pushed farther back and the transmission mount has to have moved back with it. Therefore hybrids will need a longer cat plate in order for the plate to mount to the transmission support cross member.

 

So, the 2022 plate changes have me considering an option since I hate standard security bolts. I need clearance for the PRO plate people. I am considering using one of these on the passenger side along with bolts in the threaded holes that are there from the pro plate from the factory. So the intent here is to make this plate FULLY functional with the PRO plate, while being an oil change tech/DIY best friend. All the other plates I have seen for the 22 have the 2 threaded holes holding up the front of the plate. That works, but there is a problem that comes up whenever you go to actually change the oil. You remove the PRO plate and the cat plate droops down. This fatigues the metal and causes a PITA for whomever is doing the work. My solution is to add an elevator bolt to hold the front of the plate up and at the same time making access to the cats harder. This will make install of the plate a bit of a PITA, but I would personally rather spend another few minutes installing this bolt than giving a thief and easier target.

So, there would be 3 bolts in front and 2 in the rear. I have issues going with the easy bolt hole on the driver side because how damn close that nut and bolt is to the half shaft for 4x4.

 

Just ordered an Aluminum 1/4” cat plate! I imagine this is a straightforward install with the pentagon bolts?

I have the first hybrid plate being made now. The PRO plate will fit just fine

 

Pure casual interest here, as I do not have a 3rd gen, but are these cut on a machine in house? Just for the sake of neat stuff to see, do you have a clip/video of it being done? CNC and laser cutters are fun to watch.

How's the progress on the hybrid plate? I don't see any options for it on your site yet so thinking it's still being worked on.

@Classy63 this is great news. To confirm, is it four bolts to secure the hybrid plate to the truck? Also, I was looking to buy the Toyota TRD front skid plate. Is the front skid plate even needed with your hybrid plate? Thanks.

Edit: Also, would there be any issue using the Rock Hard Rock Dome bolt head protectors with the plate?

 

There is an option when ordering the plate to add pentagon bolts

The plate has holes for the TRD plate. The TRD plate and the cat plate do different jobs, I wouldn’t say one would replace one with the other as they cover different spots

The rock domes of course would work, but you would only need 2 for the rear of the plate as the TRD plate will cover the front

 

@Classy63 If I order two additional pentagon bolts, do you know if they are the same size as the two front bolts used for the front of the Toyota TRD skid plate? I'd prefer to have all pentagon bolts on your hybrid plate and the Toyota TRD skid plate. Thanks.

 

The TRD skid plate uses much smaller bolts. I think they are M12

 

@Classy63 I ordered your 2022+ Tundra hybrid aluminum cat plate yesterday (Sep.01) via your website. Will I need washers, bushings, or your nut plate to install the cat plate? If so, I'd like to add them to my order. Thanks.

For those of you who ordered the 2022+ Tundra hybrid aluminum cat plate, this may give you some idea as to timing regarding a similar order.

I ordered my 2022+ Tundra hybrid aluminum cat plate on 01 Sep 2022 from Valhalla's Shield and it was delivered to my doorstep in Canada on 22 Dec 2022. I have no issue with the delivery time as I was well aware of the delays in production/shipping when I ordered the plate.

The plate was well packaged and received without issue. As per the attached photos, the cat plate looks great and the powder coating is 100% uniform on the plate. The welds on the seams are clean and the pentagon bolts/socket were also well packaged.

The cat plate will sit in my garage until I take delivery of my 2023 Tundra hybrid Limited TRD Off Road, which is anticipated to be in early spring 2023. I will provide an update with additional photos once I get my truck and install the cat plate.

I concur. I order mine Aug 30, 2022; received the same week (Canada as well) but was also prepared for the wait/delay. Plate was installed on my truck and the fit is good and I'm satisfied with the plate and quality of the product. Thanks!

 

@Classy63 or anyone else: Are you able to confirm the 2022+ Tundra Hybrid Cat Plate is the same for both the 5.5' bed and 6.5' bed trucks? I purchased this plate for a 5.5' bed Tundra Hybrid I have on order but I now have an opportunity to lock in an allocation for 6.5' bed Tundra Hybrid and I'd like to confirm the same plate fits both trucks. Thanks.

 

Bed size does not change anything for the plate, only hybrid or non hybrid
