Got around to doing the front brakes this morning. Did a quick break in on the EBCs and am happy with the performance so far.

Old pads probably had a little bit of life left but I think this will work out better for the dumb shit we sometimes do off road.
    0DA2AC39-628D-4DFE-A825-C51891925FEE.jpg

Also adjusted the parking brake finally so it’s useable, and got to try out the new unijack.

Here’s the video I followed to do the adjustment. My shoes were actually pretty good and just needed to adjust the cable adjuster under the driver door.

“Get a Rago dash plate” they said. “It’ll be fun” they said. Been piecing together mounts for the random stuff I have in the truck. I think this will be most of it, until I decide to move from my ProClip to a Ram mount on the phone holder too.

I’ll try to get them fitted on the dash plate tomorrow. It’s way too hot out tonight.

Still messing around with the placement of them, but happy with the function.

Here’s a closer shot of the radio mount setup, where I drilled a new hole in the Ram mount to work with the Rugged Radio holder I have.

Keep an eye on the rotors. The Yellow's like to eat rotors

Yeah they’re soft but work really good. I got almost a year out of them.

I was planning on replacing the rotors at the next brake job, but that’s good to know to watch in the meantime. Stock rotors were in good shape at 45k miles so figured I’d get some more life out of them.

The stock rotors seem to really hold up well. I just replaced my front and rear pads last week. I was still on the first set and got 80K miles out of them. Turned the rotors and installed factory pads front and rear after some internal debate about going aftermarket.

I only replaced the front pads because they started squealing in certain conditions. I’m happy with the stopping power of the Yellows though. Could just be perceived effect, but I feel like the stopping is a little better now. They did well on my last off road trip that had a few steep descents.

Getting warm with the first guess... a little bigger, though. We had to create a tax shelter for 2022 taxes and decided to make a poor financial decision for a little while...

It looks kind of like your left side tires are experiencing abnormally high temperatures that is leading to imminent delamination or catastrophic sidewall failure.

looks like I still have a little ways to go before it’s really an issue
    upload_2022-7-13_11-14-41.jpg

I’ve never figured out why the TPMS displays random high values when the sensors are getting picked up after startup.

That is a weird anomaly. Regarding the tire temps the glue that binds the layers of a tire together can get too hot and begin to weaken at about 250°F that will ultimately result in tread separation.

"Most experts consider 195 degrees Fahrenheit as the “line in the sand” when it comes to tire temperature: Beyond that point, the temperature will start impacting tire life. At 250 degrees, a tire will start to lose structural strength, could begin experiencing tread reversion and the tire will begin to lose strength." quote from Bendix Corp, Jon Intagliata Product Manager, Tire Pressure Monitoring.

My google search was just a bad attempt at a joke… I don’t remember what the typical tire temp is on the TPMS reading but it’s MUCH closer to ambient temp. If they were really in the 400° range I think I’d have other, more noticeable issues around the truck…
