Does anyone with the RC speedo calibrator know if disconnecting the battery for a few hours will erase the update/info programmed for your truck?

I DC'ed so I could trickle charge my AGM for a few hours and noticed I'm off by 10 mph. I'm going to re-update when I get a laptop reconnected to it but yeah weird.

Really depends on the circuit and microcontroller RC is using.

I don’t think they provide a wiring diagram but if they are using the constant power wire going to the cluster it could be to retain memory in the chip.

If not they could be using EEPROM to store the calibration in the chip so you don’t loose it when power is disconnected.

You’re actually supposed to have the battery disconnected when you’re performing the calibration. I’m running the Hypertech but I’m pretty positive they are the same module, just rebranded for RC, and I’ve never had an issue after disconnecting the battery. Do you use the Hypertech software to do the calibration?

Good to know. I don’t have one but I assume the program and code is pretty simple. If you do flash yours with the battery off I wouldn’t think it would loose the program when battery is disconnected

No, RC has their own printed instructions as well as online location for the updater and software. I did not see any place that mentioned to DC the battery prior to calibrating.

I would think a momentary lapse in power wouldn't cause a memory wipe but yes, a prolonged absence of power seems likely.

I just looked and it’s the same module and software as Hypertech. And the instructions don’t mention disconnecting the battery because you program it before installing it in the truck. Bottom line, the module shouldn’t lose anything no matter how long it loses power.

It's not supposed to lose the information. I've had my battery out a lot lately but I haven't verified.

Yeah I did the initial flash from my PC but after the install, I used a laptop (did this post-gear swap) while the module was installed.

If settings should be retained, I don't have a good reason why it is so far off all of a sudden. I'm gonna reflash then monitor.
