I wanted the double cab but got a crew cab as that was what was available to buy. The double cab has a shorter wheelbase but with young adults in the truck I would wait until I could get the crew cab version of the truck. The crew cab also doubles the floor area for transporting things, like bags of groceries, and that is help.

I stopped and looked at a DC today. The salesman told me I could order a 4X4 DC SR5 and have it in about 2 months. Not sure if he's FOS.

Can’t you get both the 6.5’ bed and a crew cab now?

Why not take your boys to the dealer, get them to sit in the back of the DC and see how the space is?

I mean it's pretty simple in my book:
    • If passengers are the priority...get the CrewMax.
    • If hauling is the priority...get the Double Cab.
    • If you can't decide...get the CrewMax with the standard length bed (6.5') instead of the tiny bed (5.5').
I don't have kids, but knew I wanted the 6.5' bed. I do more "truck stuff" than people hauling so I went with the DC. I'm happy with it and don't regret it all. The only living beings that have been in the rear seat area are my two dogs and they've never complained.

My only "irk" directly related to owning a DC is the lack of aftermarket support right now for cab-related & some bed-related items. However, that will get rectified eventually. Makes sense that vendors start development with the CrewMax short bed models first. The family trucks are the vast majority of truck sales right now. Same problem impacts Jeeps. I'm surprised the 2-door Jeep hasn't gone the way of the single cab truck by now.

If I was Toyota, I would have taken a 2.5 gen CM, taken 6" out of the back seat seat and given it a 6' bed. That would also have allowed them to meet their goal of giving us even fewer choices in the new truck.

I have the DC as I don't people haul, had truck since Jan 7, I can count on one hand the number of times I hauled adults, short distance, and they didn't complain either.

I have a power rear window in my '05 Tundra. I had it in my CrewMax as well. The CrewMax offers WAY more room than the double cab. The first gen Tundra is more mid-sized, where as a '07+ Tundra is more full sized. I wanted a slightly smaller truck for my needs. If you want back seat room, definitely go with the CrewMax.

After having a 2014 DC and 2019 CM, any day now, I'll have my CM6.5. Estimated delivery was June 24-29. Still no update since getting on the rail.

One thing I just thought of: if you're going to tow an RV, may as well get the CM because you're limited on what you have access to in the bed when you're towing anyway.

I don’t think it’s been mentioned but if you look at used 2.5 gens, the DC is $7k-10k less than the CM on the used market when all else is equal. I think it’s about a $2k increase in initial MSRP between the CM/5.5 and DC/6.5 so call it a $5k-8k loss when it comes time to sell

DC has a good bit less room than previous gens. I can haul my girls around just fine, but would not want to pack a couple dudes back there, o' well they can drive separate I guess...
I, personally, wanted the extra bed space..... for hauling stuff like rocks and iron ore!

I went with the DC because I wanted the 6.5 bed without making the truck obnoxiously long since when I actually go into the office I am parking in underground garages. I am already limiting myself by driving a truck as tall as a TRD Tundra. I came from a Tacoma with a 5 foot bed and double cab (which is the large cab on the Tacoma , the access cab is the small cab and why no consistent naming across vehicles, who knows...), and there just wasn't enough room in the bed for stuff I do. That, and the wife and I just became empty nester's and she drives a Sienna so if we need to haul people we have an option. The other option is the kids all have their own cars, so there is no requirement for them to ride with us. I think KroppDuster said it well - it is kind of a people or stuff question.

I went with the DC due to several reasons,

It was available that day, Cms were not with the exception of a Pro, Capstone and a 2wd.

The dealer marked the DC down $2,000

I am single, dont haul people. Maybe someone going fishing or hunting but normally its just me. Normally the rear seat will have a extra coat or hoodie or a rifle during hunting season bouncing around back there.

The longer bed is nice to hauling stuff.

I came out good on the purchase, while I do like the CM, and eventually I see myself going back to one, for now this one will do just fine. Not crazy about he color, midnight black, but I have had black vehicles before so it was not a deal breaker.

I was offered crazy money for the 4runner, I decided not to pass that up.
