Added a 5"x16" piece of rubber between the cat plate/skid and frame to stop it from creaking at low speeds. Worked great! Idea was from this thread

Lots of firsts this week. First dirt over the weekend (which I haven't washed off yet). Now today it's my first tow with it. Youngest brother took my dad's '06 4Runner up for university orientation two hours away and it started misfiring badly when he got there. I now have the only vehicle in the family that can tow that much so I was off to the rescue with parts and a trailer just in case. Fortunately we suspected it was a bad coil (and it was, cylinder #4, and that coil had been replaced once before already) and once we replaced that coil and the spark plug the 4.7 started right up and ran like a champ all the way home. I didn't get to tow the 4Runner but at least I got to leave work early and I'll never complain about a spontaneous five hour road trip.

WHY did Toyota decide to take out the transmission cooler??? I was watching OBD Fusion the entire trip. Temps in the 230's make me nervous and that uhaul trailer isn't even that heavy.

Oooof that's awful! Any pics of the damage? I've been curious as to how the truck would take a deer hit. Highway speeds? Thanks

Wow, so true. My hands are currently destroyed. Anyone have any recommendations for mechanic's gloves? I feel like I lose so much dexterity when I put any generic set of gloves on, but these Toyota DNA-snatchers are taking a toll on me.

I’ve used these before with good results. It’s not like they last an entire day wrenching but good dexterity and good grip from the texture on the outside.

I put my RCI cat guards on today. I’m happy and unhappy with them. Front cats look like they’re protected. Rear cats could still be cut off. I feel RCI could’ve done better with their design of the rear cat guards. Also, the flat bar with the threaded sprig clips where the engine skid and transmission skid meet should’ve had threaded nuts welded instead of the clips. Mine stripped out. It’s snug but not tight. I might try to see if I can get nuts on them, but I doubt i can. Next to no room for an arm and hand. My floor jack helped a lot. Skid and cat guards weight was around 59#. I could jack it into place. In my opinion the cat guards guard against rocks and sticks/brush. Not thieves. E478EF23-7989-4D6C-A433-B31E407A1A18.jpg1A7A092C-0619-402B-BE48-53D4A724C921.jpg

Looks like you just used the two existing holes in the front and the two on the rear crossmember without drilling the other holes for the rivnuts?

Check the build link in my signature.
    I was going ~40mph.
I’ve posted pics in a a few threads - Lunar Rock one for sure (my internet sucks at home so hard to post from here).

Basically, everything from the radiator forward is going to need replaced except for the passenger headlight and maybe the trim piece directly below it. The aluminum crash bar inside the bumper also appears to be fine - the mass of the deer is higher up than a car bumper so it all went into the grill and drivers headlights area

Got my RCI transmission skid and cat guards put together but didn’t have it in me to install yet. Also ordered a set of bronze Heritage Edition Pro BBS wheels that I have been drooling over forever. One can finally get them without a VIN but they ain’t cheap.

I’m gonna have a nice set of black TRD Pro BBS wheels for sale soon if anyone is interested. I will get them posted on marketplace once I get my new bronze set installed.

    Edit: North Alabama area.

Did you consider just having your black wheel s powder coated instead of buying new wheels?

Dropped off last night! Picking her up after lunch with some fancy new shoes. Also threw the TRD rear sway bar on last week and it really helped with towing the camper.

Can you post pix when you get the wheels mounted? My truck is also MGM color, and I haven’t found a wheel color combo I really like with this truck. Many thanks.

You can't powder coat the BBS Forged wheels. Its been discussed many times on the forum.

I did not know this. This is good to know now though. I am assuming because they are forged?

I wished I could have but the baking process during powder coating can weaken the forged aluminum a second time. If I can find the article I will post it.
