what do you use for cleaning tires @Ckatz53 ?

 

Meguiar's non acid diluted 2:1 typically does the job. May mix in some apc 3:1 if they're really bad. Just be careful and ensure the wheels aren't untreated/raw aluminum (thats rare) as apc can etch those pretty badly.

 

There's probably better stuff out there for this tbh but from a cost/business perspective meg's nonacid is very cost effective.

 

Not to throw (yet) another option in.....but I've gone away from the two bucket method completely. I now use the 'one bucket/multiple wash mitts' method. I started this after watching a Larry Kosilla video (link below). To me, this is a better way to mitigate the chance for wash-induced swirling.

What size machine do you have?

 

Ok rephrase. What size backing plate do you have.

 

If you have a 6”

then 5” plate use the 5.5”

I just did underdog on a 4Runner Saturday and have 4 more to do soon. I love that coating. I coat everything but the glass with it.

 

Adam’s site says it works with either 5.5 or 6.5.

 

Polishing is subjective. Clay has the chance and often does induce marring. Even a quick polish can remove them and basically "exfoliates" the surface ensuring a completely clean surface. I've never just deconned and coated a car...at minimum I'll give it a 30-45min quick polish. With proper products even that short amount of time can create great results.

 

So 15mm is the throw of that DA. The backing plate is what the pad attaches to and they usually come in 5” or 6” on that size machine. I would go with a 6.5 to be sure that the backing plate does not exceed your pad. If you hit the paint with a edge of a plate it can be bad.

 

Polish then ipa or eraser wipe down. There are other products that do the same as well. Then coat. After I finish the coating I like to pull the vehicle outside in the sun for inspection and leave it to “bake” for a hour then back in the garage for 24-48hrs.

 

I let underdog sit on the paint 7-9min before wipe down. I always use lint free towels for wipe offs with coatings. @Ckatz53 can probably chime in on this but that’s just how I roll.

I like these because they are trash after a coating. So I just dispose of the 2-3 that I use.
