I've been eyeing some RCI LCA Skids. I like how the raw aluminum looks and I think it'll go well with my aluminum RCI skid.

But, what is the point of them really? I mean can the LCA's not take a little abuse? Is it the cam bolts that people are trying to protect?

I'm not trying to pry or be argumentive. If anything I want an excuse to buy them haha.

    Thanks guys.

Cons: Lose clearance, add a material that doesn't slide but galls up, spend money.
Pros: Look cool? More protection for all those times you've dented your LCA? :D

I think they're pointless, I'd like to think I've wheeled lots of things very hard and I've never dented a LCA or fucked up a cam tab/bolt on any vehicle. Though I'm sure some people have. I have the same opinion about aftermarket stock width LCAs, spend all the money for the same suspension performance but now it's thiccq as fuck bro...? To each their own though. I've bought a shit load of tools and I'm too lazy 93% of the time to use them, so if you want to get them, they're more useful than most things people spend their money on probably

STEEL skid plates on the LCAs would be a pretty big benefit. Stops the rocks from catching all the nooks and crannies in the LCAs and stopping your forward momentum. I'm definitely going to get them at some point or another.

    Too many, but not enough....
I have them and while I don't do hardcore crawling, i do some moderate stuff and they have taken some hits and I've landed on them in small rock gardens. They weigh very little and there's maybe 1/8 inch clearance loss at most. Easily removal for alignments.

I figure if something happens that you have to repair, you would then get the skids, so may as well just get them now and save on a repair.

I don't see a downside except an extra 5 min to remove and install for alignment

If you do a lot of rock crawling, they actually do protect the LCA mounts pretty well. They won’t fully protect them, but will help quite a bit when you’re on a rock on your LCAs and the rock won’t bash straight into the mount. That’s just about all it’s really good for. Here’s a pic of how trashed mine were when I was adding the cam bolt gussets. That plate should lay flat on there but it was completely mangled.
