Yep, been that way in central TX for a couple weeks already. Hot and windy. Plays hell with trying to keep the garden adequately watered.

Temps, 100 to 105, index over 110, steady 20mph wind with gusts to 35-40 on some days. So far, I've had only 4" rain this year.

Desert landscaping is your friend. Lowers your bill and conserves water at the same time. Had it when I lived in AZ. Too hot to be out on burnt grass anyway.

Everything I have on this 20 acres is native, or xeric. Native field grasses are brown now, but that's typical. 2400 sq ft garden is drip irrigated, but it's the hot dry wind that makes it difficult. Lots of oak where I live, but climate is heavily influenced by the Chihuahuan Desert.

Considering this is my first home, I'm new to landscaping but I've already seen prices to scare me off for a while. As far as I'm concerned, let the green stuff die then bring in the pea gravel lol works for Arizonans

We had snow flurries in the mountains this morning. Woke up to 38*. Highly unusual for June in NH.

Worst drought we've had here since 2011. That year wells were going dry all over the Hill Country. My two wells were fine, since the pumps sit 70' below the 275' water table.

So is heat index like windchill. Just an inflated number to dramatize the weather? Hot is hot and cold is cold.

Sorta true, but there is a big difference betweem 100° at 20% humidity, and 90° at 90% humidity. Lived in both in my lifetime, and believe me, I'll take the dry heat any day.

edit ..... but at my age, I don't work in the hot afternoons anymore. Early morning up till lunch, and again around dusk. Any other time in the summer is siesta time.

Yessir, it's "old water" Been down there a long time. Really good water, and at my location that aquifer has very little pressure. There is a county test well about a quarter mile from my place, where they measure the table once every quarter. The aquifer level hasn't varied over 6 inches since I built 22 years ago.

The track men who walk the ground are taking a beating on the tracks up here in Texarkana, heat off the track bed, all the heat from the machinery doing work, tall pines up here no wind

I wish it were that cool.

Been well over 100 and up to 114 since April, today it's only 103 but that is because it's windy with 40% humidity.

I'm sorry, please explain this word rain. I am not familiar with that premise.

It has been acting like it might rain for over a week, nothing coming from the sky but sunshine & bird crap.
