Hello guys. Got my tailgate stolen from my 2020 crew max. Found one on OfferUp from a 2014+. I’ve already been told the camera will have to be changed. Anything else I should be aware of? I’m getting it for a steal (no pun intended) for $150. Isn’t the same color but I can handle that detail east. TYIA!

I don't see any reason the camera would need to be changed..
But if you are getting a tailgate for $150, it is either stolen or you are getting scammed..:(

You might even be scamming us with your OfferUp promotion on your first post Vato.....

I get what you’re saying but unfortunately I’m not in the position to pay the difference at a repair shop. I was in the middle of my yearly all out vacay to Disneyland so if this is the way to go well then so be it. I will keep y’all updated to see if I’m getting scammed ‍♂️ I’ll make sure my pew pew is ready lol

    This is the way :D

For $150 out of AnaCrime/Santa Ana, it's probably stolen.

But for real. Does anyone know if my ‘20 can take the same tailgate as long as it’s same gen? More so in terms of literally snapping it on the truck.

It’s pretty easy to try it before you buy it, assuming this is face-to-face.

Man that's a bummer, I hear about tailgate theft but never had one of mine or friends/family stolen. I would think the rear camera would be the same.

If you don't have a power tailgate latch that locks with the doors it might be worth looking into, not that it is completely a fail safe since someone could unbolt the rear panel of the tailgate and open the lock but it helps.

People dent theirs and go snag one off someone else's truck I'd assume. Northern IL they might grab them if theirs starts rusting at the pinch weld on the bottom, my tacoma did but I got a new one primed and ready for paint really cheap from rock auto.

Because tailgates are easily removed (if left unlocked) and they contain a camera, tailgates are a target for theft.

If a seller just happens to have extra tailgates lying around, he probably steals them to resell.

While $150 is very inexpensive for a modern tailgate, it would only take a criminal seconds to pop the gate and pull it off the truck, meaning $150 for a job that carries minimal legal risk and takes only seconds.
Like cat thieves, these losers feed at the bottom and create problems for the rest of us solely to make a few dollars because they think they are too good to get a normal job. That’s why they see opportunity in just taking things from people- like the tailgate.

    It’s just 1 reason I put a pop-n-lock on mine.

It would take less time to steal a tailgate than catalytic converters..
Both get stolen from my employer's parking lot quite often.
    As well as entire vehicles..

    Thieves will steal ANYTHING.............

    ^ I put a Pop-Lock on my 2014.
Also put one of these on the tailgate hinge.

    Amazon.com: McGard 76029 Premium Pick-up Truck Tailgate Lock , Black : Automotive

Just a standard hose clamp on the hinge would be better than nothing.

That I get, but usually car parts they try to fill a demand, I'm just having a hard time to wrap my head around stealing a very specific part that only fits one vehicle, F150 tailgates, I can see that, Tundra, just hard to imagine, few years back, there were guys who only stole spare tire/wheel off dealer's lot, since its not visible, so most don't get report until PDI, and they would sell them to local used tire store whom sell them as a set of "newly used" tires, which reminds me when people who regularly steal my antenna off my GTi, I had these stubby antennas that would get stolen about every week.

oh well, some people really do suck.
