I've had AT's on my '12 Taco (Yoko Geo ATS) and '14 4Runner (Cooper At3) and have since moved up to the PNW.

Wondering if I should get something that handles the mud/snow better than your run of the mill AT considering my new environment? I'm a 95% pavement 5% fire road/light trail/mountain road kinda guy, just being honest with myself.

    I'll either be getting Falcon AT3W's ($188/tire) or Cooper ST Maxx's ($240/tire) in 275/70/18.

I really want to get the ST Maxx's but they are $60/tire more plus they won't last as long.

I've got the BFG KO2 in the size you're looking at and I love them. I've heard great things about the Falken's and they're comparable to the KO2's (both have the extreme snow emblem).

Also look at a 305/65r18 size. Pretty close in diameter but wider. I wish I had known about that size before I purchased my 275/70 's.

Ha, thanks for the suggestion. They certainly don't give the KO2's away. I can buy 5 Falcons for the price of 4 BFG's. The Falcon's also come with 3/32 more tread and a 55,000 treadwear warranty even in LT.

Neither, stock truck for now. They'll fit. I'll add 6112/5100's down the road but leave the 6112's at their lowest (.75" lift) setting.

I have not really looked at those Falken's before, I like the looks of those a lot and what they have to offer.

I live where there we get a TON of snow and the TOYO C/T is what i run. Snowflake rated hybrids. Between M/T and A/T
They are great in ALL conditions, including rocky trails, deep snow, snow pack, ice, mud, street (very quiet).
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE FOR PNW.

What you'll find is that the more aggressive the tread the worse the tread wear. I've run Super Swampers to Michelins and this theory has held true for me for the past 40 years.

Alternatively Duratracs are amazing as well and fall under the middle of the road in tread. Really amazing ratings as well.

Understood. I guess the question I'm asking boils down to do folks think the extra money and decreased tire life is worth it when they live in and want to off road in an area like the PNW

Neither do the ST Maxx's I believe.

I looked at the RT, which is what I accidentally posted the first time, but ended up with C/Ts

You'll get about 25,000 miles out of these. Their just about as good as it gets for a relatively open tread design. I know because this is the exact tire I ran on my last truck.

Great how this forum goes! I'm keeping my stock Michelins until I complete my move to Oregon next year. I've been researching tires for 2 years and this thread is exactly what I'm wanting to know! I don't think I want to go bigger than 34s. I'll keep watching and learning from everyone else's mistakes!

This is the ultimate question that is the opinion of the person. What your willing to spend for the tire and what you will get out of the tire. I am in this debacle right now too as i am in dire need of new tires. Spend more to get less life but a bad ass looking tire or spend a little less for a good AT tire that will last longer but doesn't look ass aggressive????

Yep, sounds like we're in the same boat. Also having never lived up here I just don't know how much difference in snowy/muddy conditions a more aggressive tire would make. If it's the difference between sliding all over the place and having traction the extra money is worth it IMO. If its an incremental difference then I'd rather save the $.

From what i know mud tires are good in deep snow and mud. Something that the lugs sink into and can tear through. They are however not as good on loose dirt or slick conditions like light snow and freezing. This is where the ATs with more siping are better at.

I agree with this 100%, I have run both mud and AT the last 35 years and tend to buy the AT tread due to the winters here in CO. Mud tread on ice and hard pack snow will kill ya on pavement
