Hey everyone. I said I wasn't going to do a build thread because I didn't think I would modify the truck enough to need it. Not even a month in and I'm already proving myself wrong!

I came out of a Blazing Blue 2018 Tacoma TRD OR and had a 2004 Land Cruiser before that. I've been a Toyota/Subaru fan my whole life, but this is my first ever full size truck. Decided to go for one when I figured out I could get $3k less than I paid for my Taco after 4yrs and 65k miles. Once all this used car market craziness settles, I'll be in a better equity position in the new Tundra than I would in the Taco so it was a no brainer.

Ordered the truck in December of '19 and after passing up a few that were close, but not quite the build I wanted, ultimately I took delivery of her on 5/3/22, after about 6 months of waiting. (Paid MSRP. No markup). Blue is my favorite color (It's a problem) so I was pretty set on the Blueprint.

Here's a taste of my blue problem (Note: Even my house is blue :D):

May 3 2022 - Day 1, 7 miles. Bought from Doxon Toyota in Auburn, WA

May 9 - Week 1, 500 miles. Finally got her home to Spokane, WA and immediately debadged her.

May 11 - Week 2, 600 miles. Painted the rear bumper chrome

May 13 - Week 2, 650 miles. Added Go Rhino D6 running boards and color matched mustache

May 17 - Week 3, 750 miles. Added 275/65r20 Pirelli Scorpion AT+ P-rated tires, blacked out front emblem, front window tint, and PPF on the mustache and bumper

May 28 - Week 4, 1000 miles. Nothing added, just snapped a photo at exactly the 1k mark

May 30th - Week 4, 1400 miles. Added color matched door handles and sound deadening in the doors while I had everything apart. Ran out of material so had to split the install over a few days while I waited for more to arrive

Birthday camping trip this weekend. Finally got to do some real truck stuff. Feels good to get it dirty!! 1750 miles on the clock now.

Also got the door handles and sound deadening all finished. It sounds AMAZING!!!!!!! All the rattles are gone, reduced road noise, increased mid-bass, and an overall cleaner sound. VERY happy with it. All in all it cost me about $175 and around 8 hours of labor.

Got the tonneau installed after getting home from camping. It's the Gator SRX. Just needed something cheap and easy. I did a comprehensive review HERE

Lastly, tinted the tail lights today. They came out great!

    3 questions:
1.) How hard is it to get to the interior of the doors, and did you find some good instructions online? And how much material did you end up using for us future deadeners?
2.) Was there any sound deadening liner that was already installed from the factory or is this puppy basically uninsulated/un-deadened?
3.) Do you feel like other areas of the cab (roof/floor/etc) are letting much noise in now that you've isolated the doors out of the equation?

    1. Super easy. This video shows you exactly what you need to do - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsB4eHE6tH0

2x 10-packs of Amazon Basics 14.5"x10" butyl sheets: LINK
    - These were extremely high quality and very easy to work with. Perfect size for lining the outer door skin

1 roll (36sqft) Sileless closed cell foam: LINK
    - This stuff was decent quality and was easy to apply. I ended up with a bit extra. Went on as a 2nd layer on the outer door skin.

    1 pack (36sqft) Sileless 2mm 23.5"x16" butyl sheets: LINK
    - I used this to do the inner door skin. It did the job, but if I could go back and do it again I would get more Amazon Basics material in the 29.5"x19.5" size to do the inner skin instead. Even as someone who's never done this before, the difference in quality and ease to work with is quite apparent between the two.

I recommend getting some rollers like these as well if you don't already have some: LINK

    2. There is some sound deadening material on the back side of the interior door panel you pop off, but nothing in or on the door itself besides some foam to keep the frame of the door from rattling against the outer skin

    3. I came out of a Tacoma so the truck had always been super quiet to me as it was, but this definitely made it quieter. I don't think it makes anything louder or more noticeable than before in contrast to the doors being quieter now.

On a different note, I ordered a Super Pacific! ETA December. They said I will be one of, if not the first 22 DC Tundra to get one.

Super stoked! I'm building the truck out to live on the road since I work remote.

Congrats on the new truck OP. Looks pretty awesome.

What is the awning/ shade/ tent thing you’ve got in the second post? Does it attach to the bed at all? (Couldn’t tell from the pic and my phone)

Thanks! I'm definitely loving it so far

My shelter is a good ol' fashioned blue tarp tied to 2 trees and some REI tarp poles (LINK) I set that shelter up in about 5min.

I might upgrade to some Force Protector panels in the future (LINK), but for now the budget is going to more necessary items and I will keep using cheap, classic tarps.

I prefer the versatility of tarps over a fixed awning. I can set up my shelter either with or without attaching to the vehicle, change the side/orientation, easily block sun by setting it up at an angle or something depending on my needs, all without needing to add on extra walls or anything.

@Troa that looks pretty official for "just a tarp". Very nice.

Installed some DDI Seat Jackers with the MMP panel. LOVE IT. It has up to 3 stacked plates to let you dial in how much lift you want. I always have my seat setting maxed so I figured I would just go full send and it's awesome. Very comfortable. Gonna mount a strong magnet to the MMP to hold my pistol while driving so it's not digging into my side. I had to adjust it down a bit to ensure it doesn't hit any of the clips under the seat at full extension forward. I don't normally have other people drive, but better safe than sorry.

Just left for my first trial trip in my journey to work up to living and working out of the truck full time. 30 days or so on the road. 6 hours of driving today and the seating position was perfect.

    20220818_183323.jpg

I also did a rear seat delete to give myself a bit more space for the cooler (and eventually the fridge). Loved it from the moment I took it out. Great idea and took literally 2 bolts.

Just made my production payment on the Super Pacific! ETA 12-16 weeks

Asked a couple questions I thought others interested in the camper might find useful/interesting:

    1. Will my factory bed view camera be able to see through the front window of the camper and still see into the bed?
We are moving the cab side window up to allow the camera to be able to look into the bed!

    2. If I plan to put solar on the roof is there a way to have it pre-wired or anything so I don't have to drill any holes?
We have passthroughs already cut in the cab side. Both passenger and driver's side.

    3. Are there any other '22 Tundra 6.5ft bed campers in line before me or will I be the first?
You are part of the first batch being ordered. So it depends on who can schedule their install first.

My man!!! OMFG!!! I am new to this forum and literally just found these pages of custom 3rd gen Tundras today. I use to think I had one of the most modded out 22’s out there but this place has humbled me!!! Wow bro no BS I absolutely love the blueness. The new Tundra, boat, bike, Tacoma, and even the HOUSE. It’s all over the top and I frocking LOVE IT!!! This made my day for some reason. I love when people do what they want/makes them happy and don’t care if others think it’s too much. I’m inspired by this and now considering making some paint changes to my other ride & home!!! Heck looks like you even got your neighbor hooked on the blue too!! Legit best post I have seen in some time. NOOOIIICCCEEE!!!!!!!!!

Prefer darker blues than brighter blues on a Tundra, looks good. Might've missed it, but why not the CrewMax? Looks like you could've used the room.

Thanks man! I'm really excited to be building the truck to live out of it full time. It should only get better over the next few months! Been trying to hold off on doing any more major mods until I get the Super Pacific in December. Then I'll start figuring out what kind of drawer/kitchen system I want to make, whether or not I'm gonna go with an awning or stick with tarps, and what I want to do about the lighting situation. Gonna be exploring Alaska for 3 months next summer so I'm hoping to get it dialed in by then.

I often sleep in the bed and wanted one that is 6ft+. My Taco only had a 5ft bed otherwise I probably would've never sold it. I didn't want to step up to the extended wheelbase to get the Crewmax with the longer bed and I don't have kids so I really don't need to have much room back there. I kept the 3rd seat for the rare occasion I give a friend a ride, but it's mainly just going to store the fridge once I get it and maybe some random odds and ends beneath the platform the fridge will sit on.

Oh, for sure. Alaska is just the first longer term trial journey though. Gonna hit the Arctic Circle while I'm up there before coming back to do an Eastern US tour. After that I'm gonna drive down the PanAm Hwy through Central/South America and hit the southern tip of Argentina before coming back North. Should take me a year or two. By the time im done the truck will hit every country on both continents!

Truck hasn't changed much since the last post so I don't have much to post yet, but here are a few pics from floating the Green River in UT last weekend. Of course, my raft is also blue

Definitely! I've always wanted to check out New Orleans, even though they just claimed the US murder capital title from St Louis..... Probably be around in the fall next year at some point

Yea me and the family use to love spending time in the Big Easy, but now rarely go. I do have family that still live there and they are thinking of moving as it has got that bad over the last few years. Many reasons why. Be careful on your journeys my friend. Do you travel and post those adventures online? If so where can I find and follow you??

I'm terrible with the whole social media thing and I rarely post anything on my personal profiles. One part of me wants to make my adventure public, post videos/photos, and see if I can get any brand ambassador deals along the way. The other part of me wants privacy, a lack of obligation to anything, and a greater sense of freedom. I'm not sure which way I will go at this point. I made this thread to be a bit of a public journal I can go back and look at down the road, share what I learn along the way, and hopefully inspire others to do similar things, so I will definitely update this thread periodically. I'll let you know if I decide to post my adventures anywhere else.

Bro you don’t have to explain yourself to me about privacy. You are chatting with one of the most recluse persons you could find. I’m like one of those old, rich, super recluse guys never leaving his mansion and having his servants run his errands/handle everything. Well less the rich, mansion & servants parts!!

Definitely worth the time and effort IMO. Hard to convey exactly how much it changed, but was a noticeable difference to me

    Pros:
Reduced perceivable road noise, makes the doors sound better when shut, and increased mid-bass a bit. Fixed many rattles.

    Cons:
Doors are a bit heavier so they're harder to shut, taking a bit more force now. Cut my hands up A LOT digging around inside the doors. Several rattles have come back now. I'll have to hunt them down

Thanks. The cost serves pretty low was just wondering about the time investment. Lots of labor but prob worth it for me if there’s a noticeable difference.

    Gorgeous truck!

    Thanks!

It took me about 90min per door to do 3 layers, so I would budget about 30min per layer that you wanna do. It's nice that it can easily be broken into separate sessions though so it's a great after work project.

Finally got around to installing the light bar today. Turned out great! Wish I had gone a little wider, but overall I'm happy with it, especially for the price. ($100 shipped). Has a 3 year warranty so I'll definitely get my money's worth at the least!

Install took me a few hours, but wasnt all that difficult. Drilled 2 holes straight through the crash bar and ran 4" bolts through them. Used one of the brackets that came with the light.

    It's a Lasfit 22" Spot/Flood Combo

Someone decided to be awesome and back into my front bumper with their boat trailer while I was out wake surfing with some friends and parked at the launch...

Guy noticed and tried to just drive off but a bunch of people called him out so he turned around and left a note at least

Gouged through my PPF and paint. The whole piece was smashed in when I first saw it, but luckily I was able to pop it back out for the most part. $2k estimate to fix :eek2:. Guy might just pay me cash. If he does I may just drop it on a steel bumper to eliminate the damaged area
