Areas of new England are being infested by these caterpillars, they eat leaves off trees, some trees are bare, they shit all over the place, my driveway is covered with it, when you go outside at night it sounds like it's raining. I hope they die off soon.

Here's a few climbing up an oak tree along my driveway

My driveway. I washed it off last week and it's full of shit again already

There are a few remedied for these things but I haven't found many to be effective. Anyone ever deal with these?

They're everywhere here in CT. 400,000 acres of trees have had their leaves eaten. I have about 8 oak trees in my hard they're feasting on right now

They do make something. Problem is I need to spray the leaves. Which are probably 30-70 feet high. I Just read about a method to wrap tree trunk in burlap and coat with some kinds sticky pesticide. I'll try that. So they get stuck and die on their way to the leaves

@Pudge, just as all the black rings around the oak trees are disappearing from the outbreak in 1981.

Yeah. I think that was far of some kind. The last 2 years have been bad in eastern CT, I didn't think they would end up out my way. You have any down by you @TRDFaux

it was tar with pesticides in it. I haven't noticed any at my house, but then again I clear cut the property 5 years ago and only have 1 oak tree. I have mostly red and white pine around me with a few maple and beach.

I will say I'm very happy to don't like maple leaves. I assume no foliage for a year could really screw up my syrup production.

As I recall they swing their way across the country so I should see them in a few years in Western, PA. They are a pain.

That would suck as I'm now hooked on your maple syrup. Do you still have some for sale?

    Hey Rick,
I still have lots of syrup available. I was thinking of bumping my syrup thread here soon, and again before the holidays, it makes great gifts.

We went down to Essex yesterday and here is a pic of what the gypsy moths are doing to the oak trees. Keep in mind that this was taken on July 4th and these trees are not just budding out their leaves they have been almost completely consumed by these little bastards. Almost everything to the east of the CT river valley looks like this.
