These always seemed gimmicky to me. Do they actually make a difference? If they do - what impacts are most noticeable?

Thanks for mentioning the sale! I've been interested in these, just placed my order. Majority of people who order seem to really enjoy it, and I notice the throttle lag in how mine came stock. Will post a review after I install tomorrow!

Same here, had my eye on this for some time now, saw the sale and said what the hell, pulled the trigger!

The eliminate the throttle lag. I've had mine for about 4 years now.

I just installed today and tried the sport+ and eco mode. The sport+ surprised me backing out of the driveway. It took a few mins to get use to it. The eco is definitely slow but I'm going to keep it in that mode for a gas tank to see if there is any difference in mpg

When I first slapped mine on, I backed out of the driveway and damn near ran over my mailbox

Just remember the settings are flipped in ECO mode. -4 is equal to +4 and vice versa.

Is it still better than tow haul aka plaid mode?

Yes but it doesn't change the shift points. Sports Plus at +4 is stupid but it felt like the transmission is slamming into gear on my truck.

I bought it to do pretty much the same. Definitely to get rid of that dang throttle lag for sure, but want to use the eco mode from time to time (trips, not really in a hurry to get somewhere etc) and see if I can maybe save a tad on fuel. They are predicting upwards of $6ish dollars a gallon by August. F-ing crazy man!

For the record, I will never sell this truck in relation to the cost of fuel. Period. Remember guys you own a model truck that is no longer produced and the last of the Toyota legendary bullet-proof V8’s. You own a piece of Toyota history! :muscleflexing:

I just installed mine, took it on a short drive. I kind of doubt I will be keeping it. You have 30 days to return it so I am going to drive around for at least a week to decide. City mode -2 feels like you have it in tow / haul mode, so that should give you an idea of how much more adjustment you have. Sport and Sport + are basically useless, the second you touch the throttle it jerks the truck around like you put the accelerator to the floor. If I keep it, City -1 or -2 will be where I leave it. At that setting I do prefer the throttle sensitivity to how it comes stock, but you can just push tow / haul for free. If you would rather drive with 10% of the pedal movement than I imagine you would like it. I don't like how sluggish the pedal feels stock, and the pedal commander takes that away, but so does the tow / haul button. If it was $100 I would keep it, but for $264 I will probably just push tow / haul or push my foot in more.

    *edit*

I am coming back after trying it for another day. I enjoy it the more I use it. Took me a few drives to get used to it since the pedal is normally so non-responsive, but it makes the truck more enjoyable to drive with a more sensitive pedal. I will probably hold onto it.

This sums up my experience with PC too. I thought I settled in on a low City setting but after flipping between ECO and City I ended up preferring ECO even though I hated the mode when I first tried it. ECO seems to break the accelerator into a few stages at the beginning of the actuation. Sport and Sport + required a feathery touch to drive safely; one mistake and you are lurching forward unexpectedly.

I will give the ECO mode a try for a few days before I return it. I've heard a few people say they like it as well. I saw a video someone posted on here recently about a similar product, and it showed how it did not just increase the pedal signal, but it also took out the lag, and that video is what convinced me to try it. (along with the sale price.) I don't know, it doesn't feel any different to me than just pushing in the pedal more. I would urge anyone who is curious to try one because you can always return it.

Depends on what they mean by "lag". Not sure how they can eliminate lag by adding an additional circuit to the system. You can trick the ECU into thinking you've depressed the accelerator more but that's not lag per se.

I like mine. I took it out for a trip the dealership and, when I put it back in, could definitely tell a difference. Recently I noticed that accelerating from 75 to 80 mph was fast. I drive fast, so I appreciate the responsiveness on the highway.

Hikeit has options from $149 to $229. I just bought the X5 on ebay for $90... I'll see how it goes.

The Hikeit is nice. I tried both the X9 and XS. Neither have bluetooth like PC (I hardly used the feature) but it does have a lockout mode, a valet mode (XS only I think) and an Auto mode. Auto mode was a bit harsh for me, I couldn't use it long enough to train it. The XS also has a launch mode you can switch in and out of fairly easily. For the price I think the Hikeit is the better deal but it is probably still prone to triggering limp mode like the PC does.

I had one in my Fj for years and it’s the real deal. On sport plus mode it’s straight up ridiculous but in a good way.

Mine came in yesterday. Installed it and I think CITY -4 seems to suit my driving needs. That seems to eliminate the throttle lag and juuuust give it enough punch that it works for me. SPORT +4 is unusable, there’s no way I’ll ever need that kind of throttle response. ECO can get your azz killed if you’re not paying attention to traffic coming and going bc you can’t get out of the way quick enough! Seriously!

I was on the fence about keeping it or returning it, I think I’m going to go ahead and hang on to it.

I find City +4 is perfect for fun city driving. Sport+ is too much for me to handle.
