That's a game I'd like to play but Mrs. Bandito has "had it up to sneer" with my gaming expenses. Or something like that. I was installing the new Xbox when she said it and I wasn't really paying attention.

Bah, just tell her you have to have your vices!

Joking aside :D, I have that problem with mountain biking. I don't even want to look at how much I've spent on that hobby the past year. My wife also has her vices, and she knows it, so we kind of keep each other in check with that. Early on in our marriage, I showed her how much she spent on Starbucks in 1 year, and she pretty much stopped bothering me about my expenses ever since.

For games, I tend to wait for them to drop in price. That also lets me wait for stability fixes to be implemented being that just about everything that comes out anymore is littered with bugs. I just have to watch it on the Steam sales. After older games I've been wanting drop in price and Steam has a big sale, I want to buy 20 of them lol.

Mountain Biking - nice! I brought my old Specialized Comp A1 Rockhopper out of storage a few weeks ago. I need to clean it up so I can ride around a little. I bought it in 1993 or 1994 when I was at Michigan State. I dropped a class and bought it with my refund. It's been to Germany with me. Great bike.

Nice! That must'a been a blast in Germany! I've heard good things, but I've only ever ridden Southern CA trails. Specialized makes some good stuff. I got my first MTB during college too as a graduation present for myself, which was was a 97 Canondale F1000 hard tail. Rode that for almost 18 years till it finally went kaput. After that I rode a Giant Talon 2 hard tail for a couple of years, but I'd always wanted a Stumpjumper, so I ended up with a 2019 model as I wanted to go full suspension. I still have the Giant and the Stumpy, but I also picked up a '22 Specialized Levo in February. The wife rides with me. She's on a '21 Liv Tempt 2. We're going out for a short stint at my local trails in about a half hour. My son also rides, he's on a '17 Marin Hawk Hill.

I still love hard tails, though. Once in a while I jump on the Giant. There's no better way to bunnyhop than on a hard tail.

We have Rocky Hill Ranch about 5 miles up the road from here. I'll need to get my bike legs back and go up there sometime.

Yeah, I found my wife was a lot more interested in HZD than any other game. I played MGS5: PP around here and got eye rolls and the like. She didn't give me too much crap because she realized I was just as engrossed in Dragon Quest 11 or BoTW as I was in MGS5: PP. But I still got the "Oh, you rescuing Ms. Boobs? I bet you're putting yourself in Solid Snake's shoes, eh." LMAO But with HZD she actually liked the storyline and how they represented everyone.

Nice! I met a couple of riders from Texas not too long ago. I can't remember what city they were from or where they ride, but Rocky Hills Ranch sounds familiar. I like Texas, wife and I have talked about moving there for a while now. One of our two possible landing spots.

My local trails is Greer Ranch. It's just under a mile away so we ride there directly. It's one of the most popular trails in Southern Cali. It has something for everyone, but the techy stuff is what riders show up for.

If you do, just tell people you are coming from Oregon. I don't know what it is with the outside the state (and inside), Xenophobia around here...

Texas is pretty cool though - it's expensive but if you are coming from Cali, you should be used to it. We've got every kind of terrain here and some really great people.

Yeah, I'm aware of the Xenophobia. But I get it, too.

I was out there for a client (Toyota) a few years ago. Treked around Plano/Dallas for a week, and checked out housing in the surrounding areas, and also Frisco. Really enjoyed my time there. Everyone I met was cool. My kind of people. And the beef! OMG the beef! The on-site restaurants at Toyota even had better beef than even the best restaurants in Cali. No joke. Yeah it's pricey here, but from what I've read the state doesn't tax you up your *** the way Cali does.

Finally finished Horizon: Forbidden West. Such a great game, and great series in general! Hopefully a DLC is released by year's end like the first game.

I just started Resident Evil 3 Remake (PC/Steam). I was going to play MGS5, but I decided to pick up where I left off on my playthrough of the main Resident Evil games as I'd never played through all of them. The remakes look phenomenal, especially in HDR!

So I got another"exclusive invitation" email from Sony so that I can get another chance to miss out on a PS5 for yet another Playstation Direct PS5 sale event. Except today I scored one! Finally! So stoked!

I do, thanks! The "bundle" only comes with 1 controller, and I didn't shop for anything else in fear of losing the console from my cart.

Nice! I'll fully admit I bought one at a bit above MSRP back in 2020; but it was well worth it. :)

I tried to get a PS5 for a couple of months after the November 2020 release date and then finally resorted to following the Twitter feed of a supposed PS5 tracker. I was able to get the disc version at Target for $499 within a week of doing that.

Oh yeah, I was tempted more than once to do the same! I was fortunate to get my hands on a 3000 series RTX GPU and also upgraded my CPU not too long after the PS5 released, so that helped keep me from pulling the trigger since I tend to be more of a PC gamer.

I had no luck with Twitter and had only signed up for restock notifications. I was almost always in the middle of something for work every time I'd get a notification. The few times I was able to try, they were gone in no time. I gave up almost completely and would only attempted the Sony Direct sales, which on the 3rd invitation I was able to get one.

I used to myself; but at the age of 46, having been in the IT world (both military and civilian/government) since 1997, I've repaired more networks/computers/servers than I care to count. So when I go home, the LAST thing I want to mess with is another computer; I just want to pick up a controller and play and not worry about BSoDs or drivers or the like. LOL

We have a similar history and timeframe in IT, but I made the switch to application development mid-way through my career, so it doesn't bother me really to still build PCs. But I do hate sitting in front of my computer for too long once 5:00 hits.

Those upgrades, however, have become further and fewer in between, having other priorities in life (like kids in college, and them eating all my food lol). Ths BSoD thing though has almost become a thing of the past. I rarely ever get crashes. I think I've seen 1 that I remember in 3 years. This includes 2 work laptops, my gaming laptop, and of course my gaming rig. My kids also have gotten into PC gaming (though they still have their consoles), and I haven't had to fix a single thing on their rigs since I built them a few years ago. I also haven't had a single computer from friends/family in my house waiting to be fixed the last 5 years.

But in the end, I just prefer the tech. I love gaming in super ultrawide (32:9). So immersive. I've also been gaming in high refresh and hitting above 100 frames for years, but it's now just becoming a thing with consoles. But even then, the benchmark is 60 frames/refresh. My PC has been doing that efficiently for almost 10 years now. And then there's the fan noise. I'm pretty sure if my PS4 and PS4 Pro had wings, the darned things would fly once those fan jets kicked on lol.

But I don't mean to rag, I obviously do still play on console (mainly exclusives). I'm way happy to have gotten the latest console tech... finally!

Okay, so you all suckered me in with the talk of Horizon - I haven't played FW yet, but Zero Dawn was easily one of the best games I've every played, so I've been debating FW...problem is I'm a super-casual gamer with not a lot of free time and a backlog of games (mostly PS4) to play. I've gone to buy games on sale/deal during the holidays and have had to learn my lesson to check my stack lest I end up with several copies of a game I've bought multiple times before and have just never played :|

I'm working through AC: Odyssey right now. Tons of fun, so far, but with the few and far between chances I have to actually play I have to familiarize myself with the controls almost every time! I'm also an old-school gamer, having grown up with the Sierra series of Quest games. I have King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, Hero Quest, Leisure Suit Larry...basically all their original games waiting for me on my PC from one online provider or another one of these days.

I also severely miss Tenchu: Stealth Assassins...so if anyone has any recos for anything similar, I'm all ears. Not really a FPS fan, which is kind of a bummer since it's the most prevalent genre of games it feels like recently (i.e. the last few years).

Since you loved Zero Dawn, I'd recommend FW whenever you can get to it. It takes the combat - and story - to the next level. One of the first major cutscenes gripped me emotionally and got me pumped for the rest of the game. However, if you have a PS5, note that the performance mode might not be up to par depending on your preferences. I originally finished it on PS4 Pro (which the game looked gorgeous on), and then I spent a few hours with it on the PS5. I much preferred 30 fps from a graphcis perspective.

I'm not a huge FPS player anymore either, but even when I did play FPS games, I was a bigger fan of RPG, flight sims, and RTS games. It's sad that RTS games in particular are neglected these days, but at the same time, it's probably a good thing for me cause they were my nemesis. I had a girl dump me during college cause I wouldn't stop playing C&C to spend time with her lol. But she deserved better so it was a good thing really. I had the same thing happen with X-Wing. These days I prefer 3rd person RPG/Action RPG.

Oh for sure; I didn't take offense. And you're right - BSoD's are largely a thing of the past, though sadly friends/family 'fixit' stuff is NOT. LOL (Though it's getting less.) Honestly it's more of a 'mindlessness' thing, if that makes sense - e.g., I just want to be able to mash the PS5/XBox button and go @ it. LOL

I will say that I've not heard squat from the fans on the PS5. Then again I sit about 20' away from it. LOL

I also prefer 3rd person. FW was outstanding and much better than the ZD in my opinion.
If you guys haven’t played God of War or Ghosts of Tsushima yet, they are absolute masterpieces. If you’re a fan of Tenchu, you’ll love Ghosts of Tsushima, and God of War May have the best combat of any game I’ve ever played.

Oh I totally get that! Additionally, just because you're in IT, you automatically should know EVERYTHING about the applications they use lol. No joke, my wife's family for almost 18 years thought I actually fix computers for a living. They never really understood the concept of applications/software, but once they all got smart phones and "apps" became an everyday term, they about had a heart attack when I told them a few years ago that I don't actually fix computers for a living.

Yeah the PS5 has been quiet so far. I keep it in my mancave where it sits about 2 feet from me. So far the only thing I've heard from it is the boot up beep. But the PS3 & PS4 I had at one point in my main setup where I sit 16 feet away, and those things are STILL loud.

Yeah I haven't yet played through all of them, and I'm not looking forward to going first person when I get there. Much prefer 3rd person, and even fixed camera. Except for Code Veronica. I wrapped up 3 (which I thought was great for how short it was), and then I thought I was going to play Code Veronica (as prescribed in the playthrough order). I'd never played it, but the graphics are soooo old I just can't do it lol. If I had at least played it way back when it might not be so bad for nostalgia, but going in cold didn't work for me. There's a fan version remake in the works to bring it to 3rd person, which I'm going to wait for before I continue my RE playthrough.

Completely agree. I couldn't put FW down. I racked up 120 hours doing just about everything in the game, and a bunch of roaming around with no goal in mind just because I could. By the time I was done with all that I was interested in, I think I was close to 90% from the platinum, so I got that done as well.

Ghosts is also one of my favorite games in the last so many years. It's right up there with Horizon for me. I finished it right before the PS5 released, but I decided to wait to play the Director's Cut once I got a PS5. In which case, now that I have a PS5, I just paid the $10 for the Director's Cut upgrade.

I played Code Veronica on Dreamcast back in the day and loved it. RE4 is my favorite.
I did the same in FW. I think I just need to do the races to get platinum. By the time I finished the story I was probably too leveled up and blew through the last mission.

The expansion for Ghosts is really good.
