Yea, ARB makes great stuff, I wish they made a bumper/bullbar similar to the Tacoma ones for the first gen Tundras. I don't know where else to get one that would make one similar to the one they make for second gen (3415010) or the second gen Landcruisers (3415110). I haven't found one that is even similar. I only have $100 to ARB, or WARN, or RIGID, or CVT so based on what's available for my truck, I would go ARB route. I have a ToyTec 10% off coupon too so that will be a lift kit :)

I think for us 1st gen guys we are about out of luck. Custom only way to go since the market has left us behind now.

I seem to recall a company that makes a pretty tough bumper called "IronBull" for all Tundra gens. Not cheap if remember right

Are some of these aftermarket bumpers setting the air bags off early or not at all at say 35mph crash? Certainly something to consider.

I do like this one. I have emailed them to verify if they are compatible with the front air bags so we shall see. The ones they had that also offered protection around the headlights looked too bulky. I want something more sexy and looks more like it fits and not just plopped on.

Minus Arb none of these have i seen any CRASH testing done (youtube or anywhere else) on any of there products. EVER. So much for R@D in alot of these places ( this brings up the next question can the bumper really pull the truck out without ripping the bumper off if little R@D is done. ). You can talk be all you want but when it comes down to a crash and air bags i want to back sure they deploy at the correct time, not driving down the highway and hit a bump.

They will not claim compatible with airbag. Legal liability. they will say off road use only. gets them out of the legal problems.

Just a few, more to come
Airbags arent going to just go off any time driving down the road due to installing an aftermarket bumper.
The sensors are inertia activated and located on the core support by the radiator, not on/in the bumper as many seem to think. Since they arent mounted to the bumper, it still takes a rapid deceleration to set them off. The difference will be that a winch bumper is going to be more solid than the flimsy plastic and thin metal of a factory bumper, therefore the plate bumper wont crush and absorb impact, more energy will be sent directly to the frame(seeing as the bumper is now bolted solid to the frame for pulling) and in that case the airbag sensors may pop a little sooner. But still, we're talking about a lot of G's to set them off.

Also we do make 1st gen bumpers as well. I've done the early 1st gen, and now come Monday I'll have an '05 in my shop for some bumpers as well so the whole generation should be covered within the next week or 2

Air bags deploying at the wrong time definitely defeats their purpose. It's not a pleasant experience to begin with. It's real expensive to contract 3rd party safety testing for certified results. 10s of thousands $ easily. A small mom and pop shop can't afford that kind of testing. I see the same bs with our competitors. They claim compliance whereas we are accredited because we have proven compliance which costs a hell of a lot of dinero for 22 labs. On the other hand I haven't heard or read much if this is a big problem or isolated incidents. Not to mention that thousands of bumpers are in use. There must be data somewhere on this.

i was wandering where you where at in this.. I have always liked your work eric.

Airbags have changed you forgot the center sensors and side sensors in todays cars and trucks. . The sensors today are more sensitive. there still is reports not just in trucks but of cars of airbags deploying for NO REASON 1st gen airbags where bad but todays you still have randoms go off reason unknown. I know how air bags and sensors work i went to school for it.

DING DING DING we have a winner.

That's a nice bumper. Doesn't hurt to ask about air bag compatibility. If the situation was so bad there would be all kinds of buzz. Mike is right that most if not all(ARB excluded) use the "for offroad use"disclaimer for many products.

I agree. If the bumpers are anything like the axle truss then I'm sold.

I actually really like the one you have on your site and the price point is much better. Website describes it well. Can you tell me approximately how much farther it sticks out compared to a stock bumper?

It's been too long, finances were too tight the last couple years. Just ordered a new Diamondback SE tonneau cover, should be here in about a month. In the mean time I am looking for a tailgate lock that will be equally sturdy so my junk doesn't get jacked.
Getting married around Halloween this year, so don't tell the little lady I just dropped $1500 on the bed cover :cookiemonster:

How do you like you side steps? I have ugly chrome need bars I like the look of side steps a lot but practicality is minimal. I'm in a toss up of those and sliders.

I'm not a huge fan of them actually. They came with the truck when I bought it, but I much prefer the functionality and looks of sliders. These just seemed like it was only a matter of time before I broke one off on a trail.

Tonneau cover arriving next week! Also looking at http://white-knuckleoffroad.com/toyotatundra.htm for sliders with the diamond top plate, powder coated to match the cover. I'm not sure if the Pelfreybilt sliders could be easily modified to install on my truck. I've also seen similar looking sliders on Relentless' website, but not for my model year truck. At any rate, probably will look at getting a set around Thanksgiving.

One more for the closed metal look.
But is it slick when wet?
