I still have many more mods and a couple miles to put on my Tacoma yet before I look at something else seriously. And yet another forum to get ideas from isn't the best idea, TW hasn't helped my credit card except on the cash back rewards.

Finished up the rears. Gonna get a rock light pic later tonight.
I got a rivnut tool and rivnuts for the fronts. For the longest I used just the plastic body pins. Mammoth suggests them as a mounting option, but they’re not the greatest. Once the rivnuts go in, they’ll be super secure. 2FE67E64-3B6A-4405-BC31-3A8C1CB2B530.jpg D55AF05F-EE6A-4C5E-8E04-8E987FA54583.jpg

Forgot this came in today! Gonna get rid of the oiled TRD filter. I never could tell how much oil to use. I was paranoid of over oiling and letting that crap in the motor. I think I’ll clean up the throttle body while I’m at it. ACE152A0-A377-4BEC-8DE1-D9636C4FB636.jpg

When the wife’s away, the dining table becomes a drying station.
And a little rock light action. I rarely use them. They’re flickering on the blues. Hmm.

AFE dry filter installed, throttle body cleaned up. I cleaned it about 5 years ago, it was about as dirty as it was now. I installed the AFR dry filter because I didn’t like not knowing if the TRD was oiled enough or too much.
The new filter sound is a little different than the TRD oil filter. When I installed the TRD instake from stock, the sound was immediately noticeable, and I recorded a 1 MPG increase overall. It had a deeper tone and was definitely louder. It complemented the TRD exhaust perfectly. When stomping on the pedal, deep tone came from the front and rear, making a nice balanced sound.
This AFE filter is definitely louder than the TRD filter, but not as deep of a tone, I noticed. I don’t mean to be misleading, because I like it a lot. I switched between Tow Haul and normal, mashing the pedal and accelerating normally. It sounds great. If you’re stock now, the AFE filter will give a huge sound increase. MPGs will tell after time, but I doubt I’ll see any improvement over the TRD.

which part number, for the afe air filter, did you end up ordering? Little weird when I went to the site as they all look blue, not like the one you're showing above.

It defaults to showing the blue which is the oiled filter. Should have 4 options (oiled and flexible, oiled and rigid, dry and flexible, and dry and rigid)

I only chime in on your thread when I know the answer!

Like in this case we had already discussed the aFe filter via pm's but that is because I bought it first! Finally you are copying me hahaha

    Front Mammoth guards installed.
They are three pieces each side, and I had to make the top pieces from plexiglass as they were missing; I got the originals as a gift. I drilled out each mounting point to the correct size and installed a rivnut. This is my first time using this tool. I purchased it to mount relays and the like, and it’s freakin awesome. This may be something many people are familiar with, but I had never seen one till a few weeks ago. Short rundown: if you need to mount something to a flat piece of metal, you choose the correct size screw that will mount your product (relay). Then choose the rivnut that fits the screw. Drill a hole in the metal piece that corresponds to the rivnut. Drop the rivnut on the rivnut tool and clamp it in the metal. Screw your relay into the metal.
My tool came with an assortment of zinc(?) rivnuts so I ordered some stainless ones along with the stainless screws. They’re from Amazon so hopefully they actually are stainless. It was so fast and easy, and the handles were short enough that I didn’t have to pull the wheels. These aren’t going anywhere.
There’s gonna have to be a day when I grind all the paint of these. They’re rusting from under the paint, ugh. They had a horrible powder coat on them, and I didn’t get all of it off before painting the first time. Live and learn.

Getting ready for something new. I had thought of a switch controller, but I really wanted something custom that still keeps the sleek stock look as much as possible. These tiny buttons light up blue when pressed on, or can be wired so the lights stay on. This is awesome. I have similar buttons in my bed and under my hood to control those respective lights. I don't know why it didn't cross my mind to use it with accessories. I don't run that many accessories, but I'm stealing your idea..........again . Just a different location. What size are those buttons if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks!! Steal it! That’s why it’s posted. They use a 1/2” mounting hole. They are listed in mm. They are freakin tiny. I ruined one already while experimenting how to solder and connect them. I just used tiny spade connectors.

Thanks! I believe the ones I have are 16mm, and I thought those were small. They fit perfectly in the holes already in the body though. I will end up buying the ones with wires already. Will be simpler for me . Great job! Keep up the awesome work!

Had a kickass time at the Valley of Fire, north of Vegas. Learned that Mammoth Guards, when installed correctly, are not for off-road. We did some heavy shit this time and the mammoth guards pulled the screws right out. I need to figure something different now. Sucks they aren't for off roading but I'm sure you will make them better. How did the ones you fabricated do?

Starting work on the new SS3s. Working with @memario1214 was awesome. He answered all my questions so I could make the right decision on which lights would work best for me based on the type of off-road that I like. We went with one pair each of the Stage Series Driving and Floods.

I made a new cross member from angle iron, and boxed in the sides and welded the seam. This way I could bolt it right to the mounts I made earlier for the old spotlights. The old spots will be on the outside of the new four SS3s. I spread out the six lights evenly and figured the best height. The soft bracket for the A/C lines had to be bent slightly downward, and I only need to move the tiny horn compressor to the same side as the winch controller and the rest should fit.

I scuffed up the face frames of the new lights, hit them with self etching primer, and then the metallic cobalt blue. After they dry today I’ll mount them up, and then there’s a ton of electrical work to get everything going independently. Hooray!A99E684D-87E5-42F5-AA6B-6773552CA1EF.jpg916E6323-1A5F-4499-922D-382AA128A1BF.jpg992A62BE-0C42-427B-A876-D05381063903.jpg

Looks good. Why does your paint look so much darker than mine lol. Mine looks light, the metallic has a strong silver look to it. It's weird. I'm also terrible at painting, so there's that

I use the metallic cobalt blue for these internal mods. It’s lighter than the Blue Ribbon sonit can be seen better. That Blue Ribbon is crazy dark in the shade.
