There are tons of FS roads in that area. I would just study google maps or Gaia. That's what I do.

Sounds good I will do that, just get nervous about accidentally going onto someone's property..

@pyrite808 - Love your truck, such a nice setup! This thread has been an inspiration for future plans with my truck. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the raptor style front bumper and hookes rear bumper in the near future. I was going to Line-X my stock bumpers for $1,200, but it doesn't make much sense for the money given the price of the eBay bumpers.

How did you relocate the controller box for the SmittyBuilt winch and was it difficult? I read earlier in your thread that access is tight, so I wanted to check before purchasing. Is it accessible if you pop the hood and look down from the top?

Thank you for such a nice compliment, and totally agree you will get more for your money w/ these bumpers than line-x. The controller box was not difficult to relocate, it is wedged in the passenger side of the bumper in a cavity next to the fog lights. I didn't really secure it with anything, the length of the wires/positioning just keep it held there. How I have it, it's not accessible from the top I just plug in the controller by going underneath. I'll get a pic added in a bit..

Awesome! That looks like its easy enough to access given the amount a winch is actually used.

Now I need to swipe the credit card for some goodies - your thread is expensive haha!

That was my thinking as well, eventually I’ll change things up but for now it serves its purpose.

Yea I was getting anxiety about it the other day looking at that thread “how much have you spent on your tundra” and mentally adding it up-I just decided to stop lol. Although it has been spread out over the past two years and I’ve justified it to the wifey by making it something we could somewhat live out of and go almost anywhere in. Some things have been appearance based but most of it has truly made it safer and more capable.

Been a minute since I've updated..

Back in March I picked up some Sidio Crates to get the all the gear in the bed organized.

I also got my overhead lights cleaned up by putting them in some smokey lensed led strip channels:

The kit comes with mounting clips that I attached to some velcro strips so that it would stick to the carpeted interior of the camper shell.

I also decided to replicate @PNW_Husky 's roof netting design:

@tundrapower thank you for your help, I got the hopkins kit to complete my rear bumper. Got a couple pics on the process it was pretty straightforward.

I was able to find a slightly used (1 year old) Anderson WDH on facebook marketplace for $380 shipped. I think I'll be covered until I have time/funds to beef up the suspension some more.

Yessir, I've actually been procrastinating on this for a while..

    1. Took many measurements inside the bed, I used Sketchup to design everything and then took my measurements using the same Sketchup design.

    2. Watched many youtube videos on auxillary batteries/electrical wiring, and started gathering parts.

A year later this setup is still holding up well, I got some things that I'd like to clean up more like the wiring, the fake granite contact paper is coming up in some spots, and plumbing for the sink. It currently is hooked up to a garden hose that then runs out the back but I was thinking about drilling a hole for a drain through the bed, I also might swap the faucet for a smaller version. Also want to get a solar panel but this whole bed setup was a bit rushed since I needed it done before we moved back in 2021. Here's a pic of it from our trip somewhere in Kansas.

Truck is looking great. I had an awesome pyrite tacoma that I sold some years back. Got compliments on it all the time.
Recently got a mesquite brown tundra. It's a bit darker than pyrite but still also a cool color.

Thanks man, I’ve always admired people who make really detailed step by step posts and its something I’d like to get better at. It helps others, but also prevents being asked a bunch of questions for the same things.

I like the bed set up.
I'm trying to finish up a rebuild of an ARE contractor shell for our truck.
I keep going back and forth in trying to decide if i want to put the big side shelves back in, or leave them out so I can have a platform such as yours in it.

Great write up and thanks for all the links!!

Took the camper shell off and hanged it on the barn rafters for now. The rest of the camping bed gear is in the shed.

Tundra and new trailer has come in handy for a lot of different things-moving, winch for helping take down a tree, picking up atv/Utv/water tanks/junker 4runner.

Gotta say your truck looks awesome. That’s a perfectly executed build that’s subtle and cohesive. Now I have to resist the urge to abandon all my build plans already underway in favor of copying yours

Also I was thinking 34s might be on the big side since I only have a 2” front lift, but now I’m seeing your 35s… and thinking I reeeeally want 35s… my wallet feels lighter already :spending:

Thank you for the compliments, very pleased with how it has turned out so far! I think you could fit the 35s just fine but probably gotta remove mudflaps/trim a bit off the front bumper. With how I'm using the truck now 34's would probably be a better option but you never really regret going with a bigger tire!

Thank you, we are now in Sparta now so you'd have to go a bit further to see it in it's natural habitat.

Nice build! I did a lot of similar things with mine over the years not to this extent though, so I'm a fan! you're right about 34's being great, I had for 5 years before switching to 37's this year for no practical reason lol. I'm liking your front bumper and see it's only ~$380 still... that is very tempting. I had already been thinking about the hooke road or dv8 rear.
